do’s, don’ts of winter bathing
do’s, don’ts of winter bathing

We shower or bathe more frequently in hot water in the winter this contributes to itchiness by drawing additional moisture from the skin. In winter you should take tepid, not hot, baths. The fact is that the latter do not add to the moisture level of our skin but on the contrary take away the protecting lipid and fat layers and contribute to skin’s dehydration. To retain the lost moisture from bathing, add a few drops of oil to the water that would be used in bathing. Avoid bathing with very hot water during winter because it can lessen the skin’s natural oils. Winter is also a time you want to avoid using harsh soaps and bubble baths which are considered irritants to already abused skin. Instead, reach for bath products featuring soothing ingredients, such as chamomile or eucalyptus, and only use all-natural soaps on underarms, buttocks, hands, and feet.
