Praise for Amir masks bid to skirt punishment Thugs lean on wall of obedience

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: The thugs, who stormed the National Assembly building on Black Wednesday, shouting slogans at the top of their voices, have filled the air with their venom. They now appear to have taken one step backwards after HH the Amir lashed out at the heinous crime they have committed, a crime which has stained the essence of parliamentary life; thereby, giving the onlookers the impression that they were entering the ‘house of obedience.’

This one step backwards was a cunning move. This was taken to escape the law and hide under the cloak of innocence to prevent the hands of the law from reaching those who have violated the legitimacy and sanctity of the Constitution, insulted Kuwait and the customs and traditions of the citizens, and shredded democracy.

Although these thugs now seem to lean against the wall of obedience and pretend to be loyal to the nation with their words of flattery and praise, inwardly they remain inclined towards spreading chaos and lawlessness.

Politicians who have followed the changes in the behavior of the crisis-provokers believe this hypocrisy is inevitable after the unequivocal assurances that what happened on Black Wednesday will not go unpunished.

Political sources say those who instigated others to ‘revolt against the nation’ on Black Wednesday will have to pay the price for destabilizing Kuwait’s security, disrupting national unity, violating the tenets of the Constitution, crossing the red lines, getting involved in high treason and neglecting the rights of the future generations.

The sources pointed out that by pouring lavish compliments on HH the Amir, these thugs are making blatant attempts to generate sympathy and rein in the fury of the higher authorities. This is an attempt to pour cold water on the fire to extinguish the flames of overwhelming discontent and to circumvent the critical and firm decisions looming on the horizon.

According to the sources, the Constitution and the law guarantee the right of these lawmakers and other citizens to gather at the Erada Square and shout as much as they want, but they are not allowed to organize marches, disrupt traffic, paralyze vital interests, threaten security of the country and expose it to danger.

These lawmakers are not allowed, under any circumstances, to hold the country hostage. The policy of ‘let bygones be bygones’ has become obsolete. It is now a thing of the past. Those who work to destroy the country should be severely punished. At any cost the ship should not be allowed to sink.

Political sources say some parties in the past who have commercial, financial and political interests have intervened to drive ‘wedges’ between the top leaders in the country on the one hand and the Prime Minister on the other.

Such people support the thugs inside the National Assembly by issuing statements and shedding crocodile tears over what they call ‘political tension’ and ‘structural crisis’ experienced by the country, despite the fact that they were and still are an integral part of this crisis. We call upon these parties to distance from the executive authority and stop interfering in its work.

Political sources recall the assurances given by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad that “there will be no dissolution of the National Assembly or sacking of the government’ and even if HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad tenders his resignation, it will not be accepted.”

These sources say, “Supposing the crises-provoking lawmakers succeed, the Premier is forced out of office and a new Prime Minister is appointed, how will the new head of government appear, particularly since each party wants a ‘prime minister’ who bows to their wishes?”

It is certain these lawmakers will not be satisfied and will ask for more. They will return to their old habits and paralyze the development process. The political sources have warned against giving in to the demands of the thugs in the National Assembly because this will harm the reputation of the nation and that of the Prime Minister. They say the Prime Minister should be changed through constitutional means inside the Parliament and not to please or appease some blocs on the street.

These sources added: “The prejudice to the state authority and the ruler will lead to terrible consequences and the new prime minister will be a puppet in the hands of the opposition in the National Assembly - the opposition which neither reflects the desires of the majority nor serves as the mouthpiece of the citizens or what we call the silent majority. There is fear the new prime minister will be a puppet, thugs will dare demand more changes in our constitutional system and refer their demands to HH the Amir himself.”
The political sources have called upon the lawmakers, who create chaos, to use their tools of control as they wish and exercise their right of expression and freedom of opinion as they want. The sources say their efforts to impose their will on the people of Kuwait are doomed to failure. They added some media have played malicious and ugly role in recent events by falsifying statements to support the agenda of the troublesome MPs.

The sources have warned against replicating the scenario and the features of what is now known as ‘The Egyptian Crisis.’ When protesters on Jan 25 this year demanded the ouster of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak succeeded in achieving their goal, they returned to the streets to demand the ouster of Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, without considering what will happen to the country or who will rule and maintain security and justice.

The sources say the ‘Egyptian case’ raises fears that marches and rallies may lead to the unthinkable as protestors may move to the house of the Prime Minister or even to Bayan Palace to impose their will - a grave violation of the Constitution.

In the same context, the political sources have stressed that the “mobility of lawmakers is normal and a healthy phenomenon if done within the confines of the Constitution and bylaws of the National Assembly in the democratic framework which is accepted by Kuwait.”

The sources have emphasized that any change in the positions of power not based on accurate balances, integrated equations and adopted constitutional tools will only leave the executive authority with no option but to offer more concessions due to pressures from here and there. If this happens, there will be no end to the concessions.
