Sheikh Nasser sponsoring corrupt media: Barrak PM warned of dire consequences if he refuses to quit or face ‘grilling’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 20: MP Musallam Al-Barrak has warned Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah of dire consequences if he refused to step down or did not mount the podium to face an interpellation on the multimillion dinar deposit issue and the remittance case, which is slated to be discussed in the Parliament on November 29.

Speaking to reporters on the last Wednesday’s incident in which several demonstrators stormed the Parliament building, Al-Barrak said “Sheikh Nasser is sponsoring the corrupt media which is distorting the facts. It is clear that the parties which the prime minister sponsors are trying to highlight the results, while ignoring the causes.  It reminds of the time when Saddam occupied Kuwait and had killed innocent people, destroyed public property and oil fields and suppressed the public will. At that time, when Kuwait had called foreign forces for help, some oppressive Arab countries forgot the causes and criticized Kuwait for seeking the help of foreign forces.”

Calling everyone not to exaggerate the issue, Al-Barrak indicated that the Office of the Parliament is trying to blow the incident out of proportion and is even calling for punishment. “But we repeat our question: who let the people inside the parliament? There was no forced entry and those who climbed the walls were we, the MPs, and we had reasons.”

Lawsuits
He alleged that the prime minister is influencing the Office of the Parliament and that it now executes his agenda by filing lawsuits against MPs and citizens. “I want to tell the Office and Speaker of the Parliament to do what they want because we are prepared and the court will judge us. But what I am disappointed of is the degree to which the Office of the Parliament had turned into the prime minister’s tool and we know that the corrupt government and its bribe-taking MPs are the ones controlling the decisions of the parliament.”
He said the events that occurred during the Nov 15 session when the grilling request presented against the prime minister was cancelled had led to the current stage. Stating that bank balances of some MPs suddenly inflated, he asked “who gave them the money?” Why should Sheikh Nasser make numerous transfers through foreign ministries to his accounts in New York, Britain and Geneva? And why are the corrupt professors, academicians and media not talking about this issue?”

Answer
He advised citizens who might be summoned by the Office of the Parliament for questioning to ask the office:  who opened the gate of the parliament and asked us to enter?  He advised them to answer the question themselves, saying it was MPs who allowed us to enter and their leader is Musallam Al-Barrak. “This is the fact and we will explain the causes and motives to the public prosecution,” he said.
Meanwhile, MP Faisal Al-Muslim said some parties in the government want to blow up the incident to intimidate people and distort the image of MPs and youths who exposed the extent of corruption in the country.
Speaking to reporters, Al-Muslim re-affirmed that some opposition MPs had asked the demonstrators to enter the parliament after the rally for their safety and security.
“If they had not done so, there would have been serious consequences,” he said.
Furthermore, MP Khalid Al-Sultan said the Ministry of Interior has no authority on the parliament and it has no right to postpone the session of Nov 29th under the pretext that the Abdullah Al-Salem Hall will not be ready for use by then. The grilling request against the prime minister is scheduled to be discussed during the session.

Divert
He said some people are trying to exaggerate last Wednesday’s incident to divert people’s attention from the multimillion dinar deposit case and the extent of corruption inside the parliament.
In another development, MP Naji Abdulhadi said he and his colleagues will present another grilling request against a minister during Tuesday’s session regardless of whether the grilling request against the prime minister would be discussed or not. “We will present numerous grilling requests against all the ministers in order to topple the government and dissolve the parliament,” he added.

Hammer
Meanwhile, the hammer of National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi was takens away by demonstrators who broke into the parliament building last Wednesday and youth sources say “it is kept in a safe and secure place and will not be handed to any authority,” reports Al-Rai daily.
Sources said a group of Kuwaitis decided to keep the hammer as it has political, popular and social significance. They said the hammer will be kept in a secret place for a long time and it might become part of an antiques’ museum sometime in the future for the coming generations to see.
