Hankook clinch FBAA title in style Ramos, Gallardo bag Mixed C crown KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14: Hankook Tires continued to show the class they have displayed over the weeks to clinch the title in the Filipino Badminton Association of Ahmadi (FBAA) 22nd Conference 6th Hankook Tires Cup at the Fahaheel Sports Club, Friday. Hankook took the top spot after winning 92 matches and collecting 264 points while Wataniya Telecoms were 1st runners-up with 81 match wins and 240 points; Bhasin Co. 2nd runners-up with 79 wins and 246 points; Worley Parsons Energy & Resources 3rd runners-up with 67 wins and 203 points; and holding up the table in last place were Western Union Money Transfer with 53 wins and 166 points.
The match wins were the first consideration for the positions and in case of a tie the points were to be considered because a team could win fewer matches and yet have more points — as a match win in two sets brought three points with none for the loser while a game which went to three sets brought two points for the winner and one for the loser. The tournament involved six categories – Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s Higher C, Men’s Lower C, Ladies A/B and Mixed C. All the above teams were represented by teams in the six categories and were identified by various colors. These teams initially played in the elimination rounds before the top four teams in each section advanced to the semifinals and the winners moved on to the finals.
Men’s A
In Men’s A, were Hankook Tires (Yellow), Worley Parsons (Green),Wataniya Telecoms (Red), Bhasin Co. (Orange), Western Union (Blue) and Hankook Tires (Black).
Hankook (Black) emerged as champions after beating their sister team Hankook (Yellow) in the finals of this category.Yellow had finished on top in the Elimination Round.
In an Elimination Round game, Black completed a 3-1 win and collected 9-3 points against Green after Albert and Joms edged Joshua and Ed 21-15, 18-21, 21-15 while Gerry and Sunil overcame JP and Anthony and the pair of Albert and Gerry tamed Joshua and JP 21-20, 21-14. Green did not go home empty handed when Ed and Anthony outlasted Joms and Sunil in a seesaw battle 21-17, 12-21, 21-8.
In another Elimination Round game, Yellow pulled off a total victory and collected 12-0 points against Blue through Sheikh and Sanal who overpowered Rowx and William 21-15, 21-8 while Jyothish and Gerry won by default against Nikka and Ron, Sheikh and Jyothish hammered Rowx and Nikka 21-13, 21-7 and Sanal with Gerry brushed aside William and Ron 21-8, 21-12.
In the last Elimination Round match, Orange tied Red with 2 wins each but scored 7-5 points as Carlo and Allan edged Sherwin and Marvin 19-21, 21-18, 21-15 while Norman and David overcame Francis and Roy 21-20, 21-16. Red bounced back through Sherwin and Francis who outlasted Carlo and Norman 21-16, 19-21, 21-18 while Marvin with Roy beat Allan and David 19-21, 21-16, 21-16.
In the first semifinal, Black generated a 2-1 win and 7-3 points with one game left unfinished against Green because it would make no difference on the result after Gerry and Sunil edged JP and Anthony 19-21, 21-17, 21-13 and Albert with Gerry crushed Joshua and JP in 2 easy sets 21-11, 21-7. Green scored through Joshua and Ed who were made to sweat before they could outlast Albert and Joms 21-19, 12-21, 21-20.
In the second semifinal, Yellow compiled a 3-1 win and 7-5 points against Red after Sheikh and Sanal beat Sherwin and Marvin 21-14, 15-21, 21-8 while Jyothish and Gerry edged Francis and Roy 21-18, 15-21, 21-17 and Sheikh with Jyothish thumped Sherwin and Francis 21-18, 21-5. The tandem of Marvin and Roy saved further blushes for Red when they overwhelmed Sanal and Gerry 21-20, 21-19.
The final was very close as Yellow and Black tied with 2 wins and 6 points each and the outcome was decided by totaling the points scored by each team player in every set.Black was found to have scored 152 points against 151 by the opponents to take the title.
For Yellow, Sheikh and Jyothish tamed Albert and Gerry 21-19, 21-13 and Sanal with Gerry brushed aside Joms and Sunil 21-19, 21-17. Black retaliated through Albert and Joms who thumped Sheikh and Sanal 21-18, 21-17 and the pair of Gerry and Sunil hammered Jyothish and Gerry in back to back sets 21-16, 21-16.
Men’s B
In Men’s B, teams competing were Worley Parsons (Blue), Hankook Tires(Black), Wataniya Telecom (Red), Bhasin Co.(Orange), Western Union (Yellow), and a second Bhasin Co. team (Green).
This category’s title was captured by Worley Parsons (Blue) after they beat Hankook (Black) who finished first runners-up.
Before the semifinals and finals, three Elimination Round matches were held to complete the last four lineup.
In the first match, Black acquired a 3-1 win and 10-2 points against Green through Victor and Anthony who crushed JR and Tim 21-8, 21-16 while Anthony and Victor overcame Janette and JR 21-18, 21-12 and July with Anthony wasted no effort to beat Hans and Tim 21-11, 21-11. Green did not go home empty handed when Janette and Hans blended well on the courts to edge Anthony and July 16-21, 21-18, 21-19.
In the second Elimination Round match, Blue team completed a 3-1 win and collected 9-3 points against Yellow as Joel and Ahmad crushed Cheryl and Cesar 21-10, 21-8 while Glenn and Joel tamed Ryan and Cheryl 21-11, 21-19 and Kiesha with Ahmad thrashed Gene and Cesar 21-9, 21-6. Yellow scored through Ryan and Gene who overcame Glenn and Kiesha 21-15, 21-20.
In the last match of the first round, Red and Orange got 2 wins each but Red scored 7-5 points through Marlad and Roman who overwhelmed Rommel and Adrian 21-13, 21-13 while Joel and Jonathan thumped Aileen and Alvin 21-15, 21-16. Orange fought back through Rommel and Aileen who overcame Marlad and Joel 21-12, 21-15 while Adrian with Alvin edged Roman and Jonathan 13-21, 21-19, 21-19.
On the other hand, the pending games saw Green achieve a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against Yellow through Janette and Hans who overcame Rio and Gene 21-17, 21-20 while JR and Tim edged Cheryl and Cesar 21-11, 8-21, 21-20 and Janette with JR outlasted Rio and Cheryl 17-21, 21-10, 21-20. Yellow scored through Gene and Cesar who beat Hans and Tim 20-21, 21-20, 21-15.

Men’s Higher C
In Men’s Higher C, Hankook Tires (Green),Western Union (Blue),Wataniya Telcom (White), Bhasin Co. ( Orange), Worley Parsons (Purple), Western Union (Red), Bhasin Co. (Gray), Worley Parsons (Yellow), and Wataniya Telecom (Black) were competing.
In this category, Bhasin Co(Gray) moved to the finals when they beat Western Union(Blue) while the second semifinal between Hankook(Green) and Wataniya Telecom(Black) is pending.
There were a lot of matches to be played in the Elimination Round which resulted in a lot of time being consumed the all the knockout stage matches not being completed.
Elimination Round
Orange team gained a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against Yellow through Ronaldo and Jeanette who won by default against Mohammad and Shabeer while Jorge and Tony thumped Claire and Glorence 21-7, 21-13 and Jeanette with Tony overwhelmed Shabeer and Glorence 21-16, 21-8. Yellow scored through Mohammad and Claire who overcame Ronaldo and George 21-20, 21-15.
Yellow and Red tied with 2 wins each but yellow scored 7-5 points based on Claire and Glorence who won by default against John and Mark while Mohammad and Claire beat Lloyd and John 21-15, 21-20. Red retaliated through Lloyd and Dominic who edged Mohammad and Shabeer 20-21, 21-18, 21-18 while Dominic and Mark thumped Shabeer and Glorence 21-16, 21-14.
Black gained a 3-1 win and 7-5 points against White through Jeth and Rico who outlasted Nicols and Benjie 11-21, 21-14, 21-8 while Regina and Mark beat Jun and Danny 21-12, 20-21, 21-15 and the tandem of Rico and Mark edged Benjie and Danny 18-21, 21-17, 21-14. White scored through Nicols and Jun who were made to sweat for every point before they could beat Jeth and Regina 19-21, 21-20, 21-20.
Gray team pulled off a landslide victory against Blue driven by Enrique and James who thrashed Modesto and Carlous 21-9, 21-13 while Maher and Sultan crushed Jonathan and Celso 21-14, 21-8, Enrique and Maher brushed aside Modesto and Jonathan 21-14, 21-15 and James with Sultan edged Carlous and Celso 21-15, 18-21, 21-14.
Green collected a total victory against Purple handed by Glenn and Cristopher who overwhelmed Nihar and Aldrin 21-17, 21-14 while Franklin and Charles tamed Cheyenne and Ell 21-19, 21-16, Glenn and Franklin overpowered Nihar and Cheyenne 21-10, 21-15 and Cristopher with Charles tamed Aldrin and ell 21-14, 21-12.

White and Red had 2 wins each but White collected scored 8-4 points against Red through Nicols and Benjie who overwhelmed Lloyd and Dominic 21-14, 21-14 while Jun and Danny won by default against John and Mark. Red team retaliated through Lloyd and John who edged Nicols and Jun 20-21, 21-12, 21-9 and Benjie with Danny beat Dominic and Mark 18-21, 21-11, 21-12.
Semifinal
In the first semifinal, Gray completed total victory against Blue and collected 12-0 points driven by Enrique and James who thrashed Modesto and Carlous 21-8, 21-8 while Maher and Sultan crushed Jonathan and Celso 21-13, 21-11, Enrique and Maher overpowered Modesto and Jonathan 21-10, 21-11 and the tandem of James and Sultan hammered Carlous and Celso 21-7, 21-3.
In the second semifinal, which was not completed, Green and Black had both won one match each with two matches to be played but Green had the upper hand as they were leading by 4-2 points.
In the matches played Jeth and Rico of Black beat Glenn and Cristopher 21-14, 19-21, 21-18 and for Green, Franklin and Charles tamed Regina and Mark 21-15, 21-18.
Men’s Lower C
In Men’s Lower C, the participating teams were Wataniya Telecom (Red), Worley Parsons (Blue), Hankook Tires(Orange), Bhasin Co.(Black), Western Union (Green), and Bhasin Co. (Yellow).
Wataniya Telecom (Red) emerged as champions in this category when they defeated Western Union (Green) in the finals. Green took the first runners-up spot.
In the first Elimination Round game, Green accomplished a total victory against Black and collected 12-0 points driven by Vicente and Michael who beat Marlon and Jay 21-12, 21-11 while Ernel and Ryan thumped Daisy and Gay 21-7, 21-11, Vicente and Ernel overpowered Marlon and Daisy 21-14, 21-19 and Michael with Ryan hammered Jay and Gay 21-13, 21-11.
In the second Elimination Round game, Blue generated a landslide victory and -12-0 points against Yellow when Erwin and Gerry overwhelmed Arthur and Shubert 21-19, 21-16 while Erwin and Belinda won by default against Bien and Angie, Erwin B and Erwin C overcame Arthur and Bien 21-20, 21-8 and Gerry with Belinda won by default against Shubert and Angie.

In the first semifinal, later that day, Red once again pulled off a total victory to collect 12-0 points against Orange driven by Sonny and Rhandy who thumped Asish and Cedric 21-18, 21-12 while Ryan and Antonio crushed Hammie and Sonny 21-13, 21-13, Sonny and Ryan tamed Asish and Hammie 21-11, 21-15 and Rhandy with Antonio overpowered Cedric and Sonny 21-17, 21-14.

In Ladies A & B, Bhasin Co.(Blue), Hankook Tires (Yellow), Wataniya Telecom (Red), Worley Parsons (Black), Western Union (Green),and Western Union(Orange) were in action.
Bhasin (Blue) showed their class to take the title by beating Hankook (Yellow) with the latter finishing as 1st runners-up.
In the first Elimination Round match, Black tied Green with 2 wins each but Black collected 7-5 points against Green through Stella and Iren who tamed Ligaya and Shirley 21-11, 21-14 while Irene and Marilou edged Shirley and Tanette 21-15, 11-21, 21-17. Green bounced back through Ayla and Tanette who beat Noraiza and Marilou 21-13, 18-21, 21-18 while Ligaya and Ayla outlasted Stella and Noraiza 21-19, 12-21, 21-12.
In the second opening round match, Blue and Yellow achieved 2 wins each but Blue got 8-4 points after Jenny and Nelia overpowered April and Maureen 21-14, 21-8 while Elsie and Nelia overcame Gren and Maureen 21-20, 21-13. Yellow retaliated through Jellica and Gren who edged Beng and Elsie 9-21, 21-20, 21-11 and Jellica with April beat Beng and Jenny 10-21, 21-20, 21-17.

Black did not go home empty handed when Stella and Irene beat Beng and Elsie 21-15, 21-16.

Red scored through Mhe-Ann and Arlene who overcame Gren and Maureen 21-17, 21-15.
In the final, Blue took the title after they gathered a 2-1 win and 8-3 points against Yellow with one match not played as it would have affected the result.For the champions, Jenny and Nelia tamed April and Maureen 21-19, 21-19 and Elsie with Nelia thumped Gren and Maureen 21-13, 21-8.The girl power of Jellica and Gren prevented further blushes for Yellow but they were made to sweat before they could edge Beng and Elsie in a seesaw battle 21-20, 14-21, 21-14.
Mixed C
Reniel Dennis Ramos and Aileen Gallardo of Hankook Tires bagged the championship crown in the Mixed C event when they overwhelmed Yvone Macaraig and Nancy Calderon of Wataniya Telecom in 2 easy sets in the final with the score 21-13, 21-19.
Meanwhile, the semi finals witnessed Reniel and Aileen brushed aside Divina Camagay and Jenny Pangilinan 21-14, 21-18 while Yvone and Nancy tamed Mean Abris and Tet Abris 21-19, 21-18.
Earlier, in the last elimination round, Mean and Tet won twice when they first overpowered Wilma Nicolau and Divina Camagay 21-15, 21-12 and then won by default against Kate Stone and Jenny Pangilinan while Reniel and Aileen edged Yvone and Nancy 18-21, 21-14, 21-18. Yvone and Nancy bounced back to beat Kate and Jenny 21-10, 21-10 and Wilma with Divina outlasted Reniel and Aileen 21-19, 14-21, 21-11.
