‘No deal to keep 4,000 US troops’
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 12: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense did not hold any negotiations with the American side to keep 4,000 US soldiers withdrawing from Iraq in Kuwait, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable military sources.
The same sources refuted that the US has a centralized base in Kuwait, indicating Kuwait is only a passageway for the soldiers deployed to various locations in the sub-region. Sources explain the presence of US forces in Kuwait is rooted in security accord signed between Kuwait and the United States of America.
Earlier, media agencies hinted that 4,000 US troops will be stationed in Kuwait, as spare force, following recent announcement in Washington by Pentagon that US was negotiating with Kuwait to deploy a number of soldiers to confront possible attack by Iran or counter possible deterioration of internal affairs in Iraq.
