Parinas and Dabuet share round 8 lead Filipino Golfers Tournament KUWAIT CITY, Nov 12: Seasoned golfer Mario Parinas and Philippine Embassy’s pride Edd Dabuet tied on the top spot in the 8th round of the ongoing monthly golf tournament organised by the Filipino Golfers Association in Kuwait (FGAK) held on Friday at the Kuwait International Golf & Country Club in Mina Abdulla along Wafra road. Participants in the tournament welcomed the winter breeze as they gave all their best play. With the adjusted handicap to match the 9 holes of the course, Parinas and Dabuet mastered the greens as both of them carded a net of 36. Trailing behind them was Bien Dantes who gave his best swing during the game with 37. Parinas took advantage with his experience to separate himself from the rest of the field by firing a 39 gross.
He bogeyed holes 3, 4, 7 and 8 but birdied the last hole 9. Red-hot Dabuet kept pace with Parinas with his accurate shots and made 3 consecutive pars on holes 4, 5, 6 and 7.
The round of the day went to Parinas with his explosive play that reached the green with his tee shot at hole no. 9 and made an easy birdie.
“I’m very happy of my performance today. Hopefully, I can sustain this till the end of the tournament this year,” stated Parinas. He added that constant practice on the green has contributed to his accurate shots.
Meanwhile, Dabuet vowed to infuse more vigour and precision to his play in the next round. “I’m glad to have tied on the top spot but just like any golfer, we’re only good as our last game. I’m hoping to improve on my performance in the next round,” he stressed.
On the other hand, Dantes, one of the players to beat in the coming rounds, made pars on holes 4, 5 and 6 but fell short of winning the event by scoring quadruple bogey on the difficult hole 7. “There’s always a next time,” he blurted out after failing to match the performance of Parinas and Dabuet.
“We’re glad that more Filipinos now are getting interested in playing golf that’s why we continue to hold our golf clinic every Wednesday at 6 pm at the driving range of the Ahmadi Golf Club. Surprisingly, we see new faces every week who are willing to learn this great sport,” pointed out FGAK President Bong Gante. He added that winter is the best time for the beginners to play golf.
“The weather is cool and playing golf will definitely warm you up. FGAK welcomes all beginners,” he enthused.
