KUWAIT CITY Nov 11: As part of the ongoing campaigns personnel from the Farwaniya branch of the Kuwait Municipality are said to have seized large quantities of subsidized foodstuffs, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The daily added several people have been taken into custody for selling the subsidized foodstuffs. The concerned authorities are interrogating the hawkers to find out how they got access to the subsidized foodstuffs which are normally sold only to Kuwaitis through ration cards.
This came during a raid near mosques during the Eid Al-Adha holidays. Some sources say the hawkers have access to these foodstuffs in some or the other way. The daily added most of the hawkers reportedly claim they buy these foodstuffs, particularly powder milk and rice from the citizens.
The daily added during the campaign the Municipality inspectors have also seized fruits and vegetables and fish believed to be unfit for human consumption.
The campaigns covered various areas in the Farwaniya governorate, including Khaitan, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Shuwaikh, Abbasiya, Ardhiya, and Andalus. The seized items and the suspects have been referred to the concerned authorities for interrogation.
Bangladeshi beaten-up: A 32-year old Bangladeshi was beaten and severely injured by some individuals in front of a commercial complex in Fahaheel area.
The injured man was carried to the Adan Hospital by paramedics that accompanied securitymen to the scene. A case was registered.
Stuntmen arrested: Seven individuals were arrested when the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received a report that several youths were performing stunts with their vehicles on Maghreb Motorway.
Sources said securitymen besieged the area, closed all exit points, arrested the culprits and impounded their vehicles. Cases were registered against them.
