New cameras to eye lane cheats

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 9: The General Traffic Department (GTD) has started installing new road surveillance cameras to track down motorists who use the emergency lane without any valid reason; thereby, blocking the way of rescue workers and ambulances, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources.

Sources revealed Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Mustafa Al-Zuabi and his deputy Brigadier General Ihasan Auwiash issued a directive on the speedy completion of the project to ease traffic jams.  Sources said the department is also conducting a study on the proposed projects to address the worsening traffic problem in the country and prevent accidents.

Sources added the department has forwarded a proposal to Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud on imposing harsher penalties and higher fines on those who violate certain traffic regulations like crossing the red light, reckless driving, and using the mobile phone by hand while driving to pave the way for its submission to the National Assembly.
