About 1,000 chemical engineers unemployed
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 9: About 1,000 Kuwaiti chemical engineers are unemployed because the majority of departments where they could work in the public and private sectors don’t understand the nature of their job, reports Al-Shahid daily.
A member of the Chemical Engineering Committee at the Society of Engineers Fatmah Al-Hajeri said the committee met with the chairperson of Civil Service Commission (CSC) Abdul-Aziz Al-Zebin recently, in the presence of MP Khalid Al-Tahous.
She said the meeting deliberated the reasons for delays in their employment. They also agreed on drafting a job description for that specialty, in collaboration with the College of Engineering and Petroleum, where the job description will indicate their responsibilities and area of usefulness.
Also, the committee held another meeting with Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum Dr Adam Al-Mulla, who affirmed that preparation of the job description has been taken care of.
She pointed out that the draft will soon be ready because the college is eager to resolve the matter without delay, and “I hope the commission and other relevant authorities will expedite action to employ chemical engineers at the public and private sectors when they begin to appreciate their contribution to construction, industrial and academic engineering”.
