Hankook Tires retain FBAA top spot Wataniya Telecom finish second with 61 wins KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: Hankook Tires continued to show a lot of class to retain the top spot in the Filipino Badminton Association of Ahmadi (FBAA) 22nd Conference 6th Hankook Tires Cup at the Fahaheel Sports Club, Friday, after two weeks of matches.
The Hankook Tires players had so far won 73 matches and compiled 207 points to lead the overall standings while Wataniya Telecom were second with 61 wins and 178 points with Bhasin Co third with 59 wins and 186 points.
A little off the distance with 52 wins and 153 points in 4th place was Worley Parsons Energy & Resources while Western Union Money Transfer were at the bottom of the table with 37 wins and 123 points.
The tournament involves six categories — Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s Higher C, Men’s Lower C, Ladies A/B and Mixed C. All the above teams are represented by teams in the above six categories and are identified by various colors. These teams will initially play in the elimination rounds before the top four teams in each section advance to the semifinals and the winners move on to the finals.
The overall standings are achieved by totally the scores of the teams in each category. For individual matches, 3-point is awarded to the pair which wins in two sets while 2 points are awarded to the winner and 1 to the loser if the game goes to three sets.
Men’s A
In Men’s A are Hankook Tires (Yellow),Worley Parsons (Green), Wataniya Telecoms (Red), Bhasin Co (Orange), Western Union (Blue) and Hankook Tires (Black).
Green team gained a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against Orange as Josh and Ed hammered Carlo and Allan 21-17, 21-19, JP and Anthony brushed aside Norman and David 21-13, 21-9 and the pair of Ed and Anthony edged Allan and David 21-15, 17-21, 21-20. Orange did not go home empty handed when Carlo and Norman outlasted Josh and JP 21-12, 20-21, 21-5.
Yellow team gathered a 3-1 win and 10-2 points against Red through Sheikh and Sanal who crushed Sherwin and Marvin 21-11, 21-14 while Jyothish and Gerry won by default against Francis and Roy. Sheikh with Jyothish thumped Sherwin and Francis in back to back sets 21-14, 21-14. Red team scored through Marvin and Roy who edged Sanal and Gerry 20-21, 21-16, 21-18.
Black team pulled off a landslide victory against Blue driven by Albert and Joms who outlasted Rowx and William 21-15, 18-21, 21-20 while Gerry and Sunil overwhelmed Nikka and Ron 21-12, 21-10, Albert and Gerry tamed Rowx and Nikka 21-19, 21-19 and Joms with Sunil thumped William and Ron 21-13, 21-18.
Yellow achieved a 3-1 win and scored 8-4 points against Green through Sheikh and Sanal who beat Josh and Ed 21-14, 21-14 while Jyothish and Gerry edged JP and Anthony 21-18, 15-21, 21-19 and Sheikh with Jyothish overpowered Josh and JP 21-14, 21-14. In Men’s B, teams competing are Worley Parsons (Blue), Hankook Tires (Black), Wataniya Telecom (Red), Bhasin Co (Orange), Western Union (Yellow), and a second Bhasin Co team (Green).
Orange leveled on 2 wins each against Green but scored 7-5 points through Aileen and Alvin who edged JR and Tim 21-20, 14-21, 21-17 while Adrian and Alvin tamed Hans and Tim 21-16, 21-12. Green retaliated through Janette and Hans who outlasted Rommel and Adrian 21-17, 11-21, 21-19 and the pair of Janette and JR beat Rommel and Aileen 21-20, 13-21, 21-14.
Red acquired a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against Yellow after Marlad and Roman overpowered Rio and Gene 21-4, 21-11 while Marlad and Joel edged Rio and Cheryl 16-21, 21-7, 21-20 and Roman and Jonathan outlasted Gene and Cesar 18-21, 21-15, 21-17. Yellow scored through Cheryl and Cesar who beat Joel and Jonathan 15-21, 21-18, 21-19.
Black collected 2 wins and 6 points as did Blue with Black getting their points through Victor and Anthony who edged Joel and Ahmad 18-21, 21-18, 21-17 while Anthony and Victor overwhelmed Glenn and Joel 21-12, 21-10. Blue bounced back through Glenn and Kiesha who outlasted Anthony and July 21-9, 20-21, 21-15 and Kiesha with Ahmad brushed aside July and Anthony 21-15, 21-12.
Green gained a 2-1 win and scored 6-4 points against Yellow with one pending game when Janette and Hans overcame Rio and Gene 21-17, 21-20 while JR and Tim edged Cheryl and Cesar 21-11, 8-21, 21-20. Yellow scored through Gene and Cesar who beat Hans and Tim 20-21, 21-20, 21-15.
Blue gathered a 3-1 win and 9-3 points against Red driven by Glenn and Kiesha who brushed aside Marlad and Roman 21-17, 21-6 while Glenn and Joel edged Marlad and Joel 21-18, 16-21, 21-16 and the pair of Kiesha and Ahmad overcame Roman and Jonathan 21-8, 21-20. Red team did not go home empty handed when Joel and Jonathan beat Joel and Ahmad 21-19, 10-21, 21-13.
Black put together a total victory against Orange as Anthony and July brushed aside Rommel and Adrian 21-12, 21-16 while Victor and Anthony hammered Aileen and Alvin 21-15, 21-12, Anthony and Victor edged Rommel and Aileen 19-21, 21-11, 21-16 and the pair of July and Anthony outlasted Adrian and Alvin 13-21, 21-20, 21-7.
Men’s Higher C
In Men’s Higher C, Hankook Tires (Green), Western Union (Blue), Wataniya Telcom (White), Bhasin Co (Orange), Worley Parsons (Purple), Western Union (Red), Bhasin Co (Gray), Worley Parsons (Yellow), and Wataniya Telecom (Black) are competing.
Black gathered a landslide victory against Red after Jeth and Rico won by default against Lloyd and Dominic while Regina and Mark edged John and Mark 21-16, 18-21, 21-14, Jeth and Regina overwhelmed Lloyd and John 21-11, 21-18 and the tandem of Rico and Mark won against Dominic and Mark when they retired due to injury after completing first set 21-7.
Yellow tied 2 wins but gained 7-5 points against Purple when Mohammad and Shabeer beat Nihar and Aldrin 21-13, 15-21, 21-20 and Mohammad with Claire brushed aside Nihar and Cheyenne 21-14, 21-13. Purple bounced back through Cheyenne and Ell who outlasted Claire and Glorence 21-16, 19-21, 21-14 and Aldrin with Ell edged Shabeer and Glorence 18-21, 21-14, 21-16.

Green accomplished a 3-1 win and 10-2 points against Orange as Ernel and Ryan tamed Hammie and Sonny 21-13, 21-15 while Vicente and Ernel overcame Asish and Hammie 21-14, 21-19 and Michael with Ryan tamed Cedric and Sonny 21-20, 21-20. Orange scored through Asish and Cedric when they edged Vicente and Michael 10-21, 21-17, 21-17.
Red gained a 3-1 win and scored 10-2 points against Yellow after Sonny and Rhandy overpowered Arthur and Shubert 21-12, 21-15 while Ryan and Antonio hammered Bien and Angie 21-12, 21-18 and Rhandy with Antonio thumped Shubert and Angie 21-17, 21-12. Yellow scored through Arthur and Bien who edged Sonny and Ryan 21-16, 20-21, 21-18.

Green pulled off landslide victory against Orange through Ligaya and Shirley who overcame Susan and Welmyn 21-19, 21-19 while Ayla and Tanette overpowered Rushe and Jade 21-15, 21-9, Ligaya and Ayla thumped Susan and Rushe 21-17, 21-13 and Shirley with Tanette crushed Welmyn and Jade 21-14, 21-18.
Yellow gained a 3-1 win and 8-4 points against Red brought by Jellica and Gren who won by default against Yolanda and Mhe Ann while Jellica and April thumped Yolanda and Cecille 21-11, 21-9 and Gren with Maureen edged Mhe Ann and Arlene 4-21, 21-17, 21-5. Men’s Higher C witnessed Green complete a total victory against Yellow based on Glenn and Cristopher who outlasted Mohammad and Shabeer 21-17, 17-21, 21-14 while Franklin and Charles edged Claire and Glorence 21-12, 20-21, 21-10, Glenn and Franklin won by default against Mohammad and Claire and the tandem of Cristopher and Charles thumped Shabeer and Glorence 21-13, 21-16.
Tournament Rules
Elimination Round
* 6 categories in the tournament — (Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s HC, Men’s LC, Ladies A/B & Mixed-C)
* Each team is composed of 4 players except Mixed C which is a doubles event.
* Each team will play a minimum of 5 games while the Mixed C category will be a Double Round Robin event.
* Scoring system: accumulated number of matches won and total set points except in Mixed C which will be based on the accumulated number of matches won and total score.
Semifinal Round
* After the elimination round, the top four teams from each category will advance to the semifinals round based on the total matches won and total points.
* The semifinals will be Rank 1 vs Rank 4 and Rank 2 vs Rank 3.
* Winners of the semi-finals will advance to the finals.
Scoring format (Eliminations, Semifinals & Finals)
21-21 per set; no slide; first team to win two sets wins the game.
Tie-Break Rule
* Total matches won.
* Total points accumulated (Set)
* If two or three teams are tied... highest total score between the teams involved in the tie based on their latest game (score accumulated in sets 1 & 2 only).
* Scores of last two matches.
The Technical Committee requires all players to be in compliance with the matches format and to maintain & follow the Tournament Schedule. However, if there are unavoidable circumstances the following upgrade and default guidelines should be followed.
Upgrade
The Team Captain can designate a player to be upgraded only once during a Team Match.
Upgrading Parameters
If player #1 is not available, player #2, #3 or #4 can be a substitute in player # 1’s remaining matches.
If player #2 is not available, player #3 or #4 can be a substitute in player # 2’s remaining matches.
If player #3 is not available, player #4 can be a substitute in player # 3’s remaining matches.
If player # 4 is not available, only player # 3 can be a substitute in player # 4’s remaining matches.
Catch Up
If both teams have incomplete sets of players, the Team Captains or a representative from each team (if the Team Captain is not available) shall coordinate to designate which match to be played immediately.
A late player is still allowed to play his/her next match provided that he/she arrives within the period of the scheduled Team Match.
Defaults
The waiting time before declaration of default is only 5 minutes per match.
No-show. If a player does not show up to play as per the scheduled Team Match, 1 match will be automatically be forfeited with a score of 21-0 and 3-0 set points in favor of the team with a complete set of players. The Team Captain with incomplete players can choose which match they want to forfeit.
Retirements/Withdrawals
If a player retires or withdraws during a game, match won will be in favor of the opposing team which will be awarded the maximum score of the set.
Replacements
Replacements are only allowed before the start of the semi-final round but subject to the Technical Committee’s review & approval.
Teams are not allowed to make changes in their line-up/roster unless the Technical Committee allows them to do so.
Winners
* 1 Team Champion and 1 Runner-Up will be considered winners in each category.
* 1 Champion and 1 Runner-Up will be considered winners in the Mixed C category.
The Tournament Technical Committee ‘s decision will be final in any dispute or change for the tournament.
