Crackdown on ‘roaming’ butchers, illegal ventures Municipality eyes legal action

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8, (KUNA): Illegal playgrounds erected on state owned properties during Eid Al-Adha occasion were removed and disassembled, said an official here Monday.

Head of the emergency team at the Municipal Council Tareq Al-Qattan told KUNA that the municipal teams had also confiscated around 2.7 tons of goods from street vendors selling illegal CDs and other goods, adding that 2,486 unlicensed advertisements were removed in the last couple of weeks.

He revealed that 27 tickets were issued against roaming butchers for working without a municipal council permit.

The Municipality has worked out a special plan to take penal action against such law violations during Eid Al-Adha. The campaign has also targeted spoilt and unhealthy food.

Meanwhile, the Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) noted the importance of taking measures and steps to protect the Kuwaiti desert environment in the midst of the camping season, this month. KEPS underlined the need for Kuwaiti authorities to determine precise camping locations and guidelines, during the presence of over 3,600 campsites estimated each year, Assistant Secretary General, Abdulamir Al-Jazzaf said.

Al-Jazzaf also stressed the importance of avoiding harm caused to surrounding wildlife. He called on authorities, particularly Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority (EPA) to enact guidelines and measures that protect the camping sites and prevent overhunting. Furthermore, he added that KEPS has assigned a team of volunteers to monitor and protect birdlife, while teams for environmental imaging and environmental biodiversity will work to record any acts of harm done to the environment.
