Grilling of Al-Numas will not lead to sectarianism: MP Expert condemns wave of protest actions

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5: Opposition MP Jamaan Al-Harbash assured Liberal MP Saleh Al-Mullah on Friday that a planned grilling request against Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammed Al-Numas will not lead to sectarianism.

Corresponding through Twitter, Al-Harbash guaranteed that the Development and Reform Bloc (DRB) only seeks to implement the law. Responding to Al-Mullah’s concerns that the interpellation will lead to sectarian tension, especially during these unstable political times, Al-Harbash tweeted the grilling will only question the minister on monitoring the sermons in certain Mosques, while excluding others, and practicing favoritism in the suspension of preachers.

The DRB had revealed on Thursday their plans to grill Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmed Al-Humoud and Al-Numas after the pending interpellation of His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah. The PM’s grilling is expected no later than Nov 15, according to opposition MPs.

KUWAIT CITY: The current wave of demonstrations in the country is a mess caused by the maladministration and deterioration of various sectors, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting Sociology Professor at Kuwait University Dr Mohammad Al-Haddad.

Al-Haddad pointed out many citizens have been trying to meddle with the leadership prerogatives and this is unacceptable. He said people should demand for their rights in accordance with the law and refrain from using the opposition as a tool to enforce their will on State officials. He clarified a civilized protest action is aimed at protecting the interests of the country, not personal goals.

He urged the people to avoid anything that might disrupt official activities in ministries and other public agencies for long hours. He believes the citizens no longer trust the National Assembly because tribes have been playing a vital role in decision-making over the last 20 years.
