Report eyed on strategy being followed to curb human trafficking ‘Ministry seeks to update mechanism used to supervise bringing of laborers’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 4: Undersecretary for Labor Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Jamal Al-Dousari has reportedly asked the Work Relations Department to prepare a report on the strategy the ministry is following to curb the human trafficking phenomenon, Al-Seyassah daily quoted a reliable source as saying.

According to the source, Al-Dousari asked the department to evaluate the steps the ministry took in this regard like allowing employees to transfer without the sponsor’s permission, establishing a shelter for abused workers, forcing sponsors to buy air tickets for maids and so on.

The ministry, said the source, wants to update the mechanism being used to supervise the bringing of expatriate laborers in order to reduce negative practices. It also wants to find a machinery to constantly monitor manpower offices as part of its fight against human trafficking.

The source said the procedures followed by the ministry in the regard match with international standards.
