Hankook Tires take early lead Worley Parsons Energy & Resources in 2nd place KUWAIT CITY, Oct 31: Hankook Tires showed a lot of class to take the top spot after the opening day of the Filipino Badminton Association of Ahmadi (FBAA) 22nd Conference 6th Hankook Tires Cup at the Fahaheel Sports Club, Friday.
The Hankook Tires players were in great form to win 33 matches and compiled 90 points to lead the overall standings while Worley Parsons Energy & Resources were second with 29 wins and 80 points; Bhasin Co third with 25 victories and 80 points ; Wataniya Telecom 25 wins and 74 points; and holding up the table were Western Union Money Transfer with 16 victories and 49 points.
The tournament involves six categories – Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s Higher C, Men’s Lower C, Ladies A/B and Mixed C. All the above teams are represented by teams in the above six categories and are identified by various colors. These teams will initially play in the elimination rounds before the top four teams in each section advance to the semifinals and the winners move on to the finals. The overall standings are achieved by totally the scores of the teams in each category. For individual matches, 3 points awarded to the pair which wins in two sets while 2 points are awarded to the winner and 1 to the loser if the game goes to three sets.
Before the start of the tournament an impressive ceremony was held with FBAA President Ronald Margate delivering the opening remarks followed by a prayer led by Hammie Ita-as.

Hankook Tires (Yellow) topped this category with 7 wins and 20 points while Worley Parsons (Green) were second with 5 wins and 13 points; Wataniya Telecoms (Red) third with 3 wins and 9 points; Bhasin Co (Orange) also third with 3 wins and 9 points; Western Union (Blue) fourth with 1 win and 6 points; and Hankook Tires (Black) last with 1 win and 3 points.
In the matches on Friday, Red and Black tied the match with 1 win and 3 points each because two games ended in default.For Red, Sherwin Felizardo and Marvin De Luna beat Albert Marcelo and JomsTantiango 18-21, 21-11, 21-18.For Black, Abert Marcelo and Gerry Aguilar edged Sherwin Felizardo and Marin De Luna 11-21, 21-16, 21-16.

For Red, John and Mark scored the only win when they beat Maher and Sandy 21-16, 21-18.
Purple tied Gray 2-2 but managed 7-5 points when Cheyenne and Eli tamed John and Mark 21-13, 21-20 and Aldrin and Eli crushed Domnic and Mark 21-12, 21-13. For Gray, Lloyd and Dominic edged Nihar and Aldrin 17-21, 21-20, 21 and Llyod and John tamed Nihar and Cheyenne 21-18, 21-17.
White managed a 4-0 landslide win over Gray for 12-0 points after they won all their matches by default.

Red scored a landslide 4-0 win over Black for 10-2 points when Sonny and Randy crushed Marlon and Jay 21-12, 21-16; Ryan and Antonio edged Daisy and Ankush 13-21, 21-20, 21-18; Sonny and Ryan demolished Marlon and Daisy 21-7, 21-12; and Rhandy and Antonio overcame Jay and Ankush 21-12, 17-21, 21-20.
Blue scored a 3-1 victory over Green for 8-4 points as Erwin and Donilo overcame Vicente and Michael 18-21, 21-18, 21-18; Erwin and Belinda edged Ernel and Ryan 21-16, 6-21, 21-19 and Donilo and Belinda tamed Michael and Ryan 21-19, 21-14. Orange completed a 4-0 whitewash of Red for 11-1 points after Asish and Cedric edged Arthur and Roy 21-13, 20-21, 21-14; Hammie and Sonny crushed Shubert and Bien 21-19, 21-10; Asish and Hammie blasted Arthur and Shubert 21-14, 21-12 and Cedric and Sonny defeated Roy and Bien 21-16, 21-13.
Red also found points easy to come when they beat Green 3-1 for 10-2 points as Ryan and Antonio crushed Ernel and Ryan 21-17, 21-8; Sonny and Ryan brushed aside Vincente and Ernel 21-15, 21-17 and Rhandy and Antonio took Michael and Ryan to task with a 21-16-21-6 win. For Grren, the only win came when Vincente and Michael overcame Sonny and Rhandy 19-21, 21-20, 21-18.

Worley Parsons’ Mean and Tet led the standings with 3 wins and 7 points followed by Hankook Tires’ Reniel and Aileen with 2 wins and 6 points; Wataniya Telecom’s Yvone and Nancy with 1 win and 4 points: Western Union’s Kate and Jenny with 1 win and three points; and Bhasin Co’s Wilma and Divina who were without a win but 1 point.

Tournament Rules
Elimination Round
n 6 categories in the tournament – (Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s HC, Men’s LC, Ladies A/B & Mixed-C)
n Each team is composed of 4 players except Mixed C which is a doubles event.
n Each team will play a minimum of 5 games while the Mixed C category will be a Double Round Robin event.
n Scoring system: accumulated number of matches won and total set points except in Mixed C which will be based on the accumulated number of matches won and total score.
Semifinal Round
n After the elimination round, the top four teams from each category will advance to the semifinals round based on the total matches won and total points.
n The semifinals will be Rank 1 vs Rank 4 and Rank 2 vs Rank 3.
n Winners of the semi-finals will advance to the finals.
Scoring format (eliminations, semifinals & finals)
21-21 per set; no slide; first team to win two sets wins the game.
Tie-Break Rule
n Total matches won.
n Total points accumulated (Set)
n If two or three teams are tied… highest total score between the teams involved in the tie based on their latest game (score accumulated in sets 1 & 2 only).
n Scores of last two matches.
The Technical Committee requires all players to be in compliance with the matches format and to maintain and follow the tournament schedule. However, if there are unavoidable circumstances the following upgrade and default guidelines should be followed.
Upgrade
The Team Captain can designate a player to be upgraded only once during a Team Match.
Upgrading Parameters
If player #1 is not available, player #2, #3 or #4 can be a substitute in player # 1’s remaining matches.
If player #2 is not available, player #3 or #4 can be a substitute in player # 2’s remaining matches.
If player #3 is not available, player #4 can be a substitute in player # 3’s remaining matches.
If player # 4 is not available, only player # 3 can be a substitute in player # 4’s remaining matches.
Catch Up
If both teams have incomplete sets of players, the Team Captains or a representative from each team (if the Team Captain is not available) shall coordinate to designate which match to be played immediately.
A late player is still allowed to play his/her next match provided that he/she arrives within the period of the scheduled Team Match.
Defaults
The waiting time before declaration of default is only 5 minutes per match.
No-show. If a player does not show up to play as per the scheduled Team Match, 1 match will be automatically be forfeited with a score of 21-0 and 3-0 set points in favor of the team with a complete set of players. The Team Captain with incomplete players can choose which match they want to forfeit.
Retirements/Withdrawals
If a player retires or withdraws during a game, match won will be in favor of the opposing team which will be awarded the maximum score of the set.
Replacements
Replacements are only allowed before the start of the semi-final round but subject to the Technical Committee’s review and approval.
Teams are not allowed to make changes in their line-up/roster unless the Technical Committee allows them to do so.
Winners
n 1 Team Champion and 1 Runner-Up will be considered winners in each category.
n 1 Champion and 1 Runner-Up will be considered winners in the Mixed C category.
The Tournament Technical Committee’s decision will be final in any dispute or change for the tournament.
