Kuwait’s Al-Ayoub sisters applauded globally Candidates for the Global Peace and Sports award Kuwaiti fencers Balsam and Lulwa Al-Ayoub were praised by attendees of the award ceremony held at Monaco’s Opera Garnier on Saturday.
The sisters lost out on the award to the global Club Med Foundation after being nominated for the Best Corporate Social Responsibility category for their local non-profit initiative, Touche, a sporting event management company, that actively encourages the participation of women and children and helps Kuwaiti nationals and expatriates come together under the banner of sports.
Head and founder of Peace and Sports, Joel Bouzou, said that in spite of their not winning the award, their “nomination, in itself is an achievement. For their work is great and deserves respect and admiration.”
The ceremony’s patron, Prince Albert II of Monaco said it was not strange to see two exceptional personalities from Kuwait, as it is a unique country that always supports peace around the world. (KUNA)
For their part, the sisters said they had worked extremely hard, to provide “an initiative that best serves creating a sporting reality societies aspire to live in as champions.”
The award ceremony, held under the patronage of Prince Albert II, was attended by 500 global icons representing 100 nations, including the Hungarian President and Chair of the IOC Sport and Environment Commission, Pal Schmitt and another four heads of state.
