Municipality dept seizes 600-kg fish unfit for human consumption

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 28: The Food Imports Department of the Kuwait Municipality is said to have confiscated a large quantity of fish believed to be unfit for human consumption, reports one arabic daily.

The daily added the Municipality inspectors during a surprise inspection campaign are said to have seized 600 kilos fish including 250 kilos of fish which was imported from an unidentified Asian country. This is in addition to ‘zubaidi’, king fish and ‘hamour’.

Following the seizure the Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Municipal Affairs was quoted as saying the Municipality inspectors are working day and night to intensify inspection campaigns at all entry points.

He added the inspections will continue to detect abusers and traffickers of spoiled food in the interest of the health and safety of the citizens and residents.

The daily added the confiscated fish was soon destroyed by the inspectors to prevent it finding its way to consumers.

Head of Kuwait Municipality’s Food Imports Section Jaber Al-Qattan was quoted as saying the team of inspectors work around continuously to monitor all types of foodstuffs imported into the country and is determined to preserve the health and safety of consumers.
