Kiko Andaya rules 2010 PBAK One-Day Tournament Tony, JR and Bobby grab runners-up posts

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 27: In the PBAK One-Day Tournament held at the Cozmo Bowling Center in Khaifan, a razor sharp Kiko Andaya dished out a superb performance in averaging a scratch score of 207 pin falls per game to rule the 6-game series event organized by the new PBAK Executive Board under the leadership of Ted Yap. Unable to keep up with the pace set by the winner, Tony Zuleta, JR Sabado and Bobby Ferrera settled for the first, second and third runner up positions respectively.
While awaiting the start of the upcoming 2011 PBAK-Money Gram-SMDC Winter League scheduled to roll off on November 11, some 34 tenpin fanatics who cannot wait to lay their hands on their bowling balls signed up for the 6-game series competition namely, Ritz Vidana, Eden Yap, Rico Galang, Mohammad Ibrahim, Noel Japitana, Vernie Villaruel, Caloy Garay, Rudy de Lima, Sonny Mariano, Eddie Pena, Toto Abear, Abdullah Adnan, Cris Bulacja, Blanca Mercado, Boy Lorino, Aqeel Farisy, Kiko Andaya, Noel Bejar, JR Sabado, Romy Fermil, Tony Zuleta, Janet Shaikh, Bobby Ferrera, Ted Yap, Bong Bermillo, Bert Pantanilla, Jane Nance, Edwin de Mesa, Rudy Zablan, Al Belarmino, Emma Gatus, Ed Mendoza and Rene Marzan. Based on the bowler’s total scratch plus handicap scores after 6 games, the top 4 were declared as champion, first, second and third runner up.

After the first two games and with the total 6-game handicap already added to the scores, Lady pin buster Emma Gatus was the early pace setter with 483 pin falls. Also making their way into the leader board in the early stage of the competition were Sonny Mariano-464, Rene Marzan-461, Bene Crucero-457, Aqeel Farisy-453, Ritz Vidana-453 with zero handicapper Tony Zuleta who rolled a superb 254 in game two gaining a lot of ground after carding a 2-game scratch score of 448 pin falls. Kiko Andaya came in next with 444 followed Jane Nance-442, Romy Fermil-440, Ted Yap, Caloy Garay-438 and Bong Bermillo-424. With the higher class keglers starting their assault on the top positions, Emma Gatus who compiled a 3-game series of 670 withstood the challenge of her male counterparts and was able to hold on to the pole position at the end of game 3. Giving chase at this point were Bene Crucero who was just 8 pins behind with 662 pin falls, Romy Fermil-650, Bong Bermillo-647, Kiko Andaya-634, Aqeel Farisy-633 and Tony Zuleta-633.

Like a tough nut refusing to crack under extreme pressure, the resilient Emma Gatus once again turned back the opposition by rolling a 190 in game 4 which brought her 4-game series score to 860. Kiko Andaya (848) meanwhile elevated himself to second place after submitting a 214 score just a single pin ahead of Bene Crucero who garnered 847 pin falls.
Going to the penultimate game of the series, the other contenders for the prizes at stake were Bong Bermillo-817, Bobby Ferrera-810, Tony Zuleta-803, Bert Pantanilla-800 and Jane Nance-800. Kiko Andaya (1,057) then booked his fourth 200 game with a 209 in game 5 which catapulted him to the number one position. JR Sabado (1038) on the other hand barged into contention after erupting with a timely 248.
With just a game left to bowl, poised to join the mad scramble for the top four positions were Tony Zuleta-1,037, Bobby Ferrera-1,024, Bong Bermillo-1,021 and Emma Gatus 1,014. Continuing to display his consistent form, Kiko Andaya breezed home in an almost effortless manner shutting the door on his rivals after closing out with a 212 game score and a total 6-game series tally of 1,269 pin falls. JR Sabado and Tony Zuleta on the other hand ended their stint tied for the first runner up post after checking in with identical 1,228 score. In the 2-frame tie breaker, Tony Zuleta beat JR Sabado to snatch the first runner plum and completing the list of winners was third runner up Bobby Ferrera who carded a 1,223.
