Trucker held as Customs foils bid to smuggle liquor ‘supply’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 18: Customs officer at the Shuwaikh Port recently foiled an attempt to smuggle 3,142 bottles of Red Label whisky into the country, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The booze was found hidden inside a consignment of sanitary wares, destined for a local company, which were being imported from an unidentified GCC country.
According to reports the company is owned by a Kuwaiti citizen. The liquor was to be sold in Kuwait during the Eid Al-Adha holidays, says sources.
The shipment has been confiscated and an Egyptian trucker who was transporting the shipment has been arrested and referred to the authorities for interrogation. Legal action has been initiated against the company.

Suicide attempted: An unidentified housemaid who slit her wrists in a vain attempt to end her life inside her sponsor’s home in Surra has been admitted to the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. The daily quoting security sources said the sponsor called the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior when he heard cries for help and saw the maid bleeding from the wrists. A case of attempted suicide has been registered against her.

Royal acquitted: The Misdemeanors Court has acquitted Sheikh Dhari Ahmad Al-Fahd of threatening to kill lawyer Nawaf Sari, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The daily added the attorney in his complaint said the defendant telephoned him one day and threatened to kill him. The daily gave no more details.

Fireman sacked
: The Director-General of the Directorate-General of Fire Services Major General Jassem Al-Mansour through a decision has suspended seven firemen for taking part in the sit-in, reports Al-Qabas daily.
It has been reported the decision was taken because the firemen broke into the headquarters.
