Al-Mullah allegedly planning to join presenters of PM’s grilling ‘Problems cannot be solved by taking to the streets’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: There are speculations about an independent lawmaker joining members of the Development and Reform Bloc to present grilling against the prime minister on October 20, and due to the differing stances of the National Action Bloc members, MP Saleh Al-Mullah is said to have considered joining the presenters of this interpellation, reports Al-Shahid daily.

Sources said the members of National Action Bloc have been informed by the government that the proposal would be referred to the Constitutional Court or the Legislative Committee, and that is why they are keeping a distance and asking the other blocs on culpability of the government as they know very well that the Central Bank only has the details. He added that the bloc chose to attack Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad, as the lawmakers participated in protests instead of addressing the issue at stake.

Meanwhile, MP Khalid Al-Sultan has said the aspiration of some individuals to clinch the seat of National Assembly Speaker is the cause of political confrontations in the country. He is of the view that the many interpellations in the parliament are obstacles to fighting corruption effectively. He reiterated that grilling requests would continue until the National Assembly is dissolved.

Meanwhile, people should criticize the performance of the head and members of the Cabinet, not their personalities, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting Kuwait University Professor and political activist Dr Ahmad Alemanayes.

Alemanayes pointed out the problems of Kuwait cannot be solved by taking to the streets or humiliating others.  He urged everyone to learn the art of dialogue rather than using revolutionary terms in raising slogans, which are aimed at provoking the ire of the youth.  He also stressed the need to take tangible steps to win back the confidence of the people, so the government must be serious in its bid to combat corruption and uncover the truth behind the alleged involvement of some lawmakers in the multimillion dinars deposit scam to ease the mounting tension on the streets.

On demands to amend Article Two of the Constitution to make the Islamic Sharia as the main source of legislation, Alemanayes accused those who have been pushing for the amendment of the article of destabilizing the country.  He argued the proposed amendment contravenes Article One, which stipulates that the throne is inherited, in addition to other articles on justice, freedom and democracy.

Asked about his view on the co-education system, Alemanayes proposed the establishment of two universities and one of which should apply this system.  He asserted Kuwait will remain a country of civil institutions despite the attempt to implement selfish agendas.

On the single constituency proposal, Alemanayes said the single constituency electoral system is not a magic wand that will eradicate all the negative aspects of the political and electoral processes in Kuwait.  He added the best way to address the issue is for the people to respect the laws and to unite in combating corruption, which is prevalent in government departments.
