Customs ‘seizes’ container with 1,550 bottles of whisky Son forces father to ‘sign’ cheque for KD 50,000 with gun at his head

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14: Police are looking for an unidentified Kuwaiti, believed to be in his 30s, for allegedly beating his father, pointing a gun at his head and forcing him to sign blank papers and a cheque for KD 50,000, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The daily added the incident happened in Fintas. The son wanted money for an unidentified reason and when the father refused to give, he allegedly beat him and pointed a gun at his head and threatened to pull the trigger.
The frightened father signed the documents and after the son escaped, he filed a case with the police.

Customs ‘seizes’ container with 1,550 bottles of whisky:  A drunken 26-year old citizen was apprehended by security operatives, in possession of 10 bottles of imported liquor, after a hot chase in Hawalli area.
According to security sources, the suspect was spotted by securitymen due to erratic manner he was driving and they asked him to stop for checking. However, the suspect ignored the orders of securitymen and sped off. He was pursued and subsequently arrested, and the contraband was uncovered after a thorough search the officers conducted inside the car. The suspect has since been referred to drug prosecution.
Meanwhile, the General Customs Department recently foiled an attempt by unidentified persons to smuggle into the country large quantity of Red Label whisky, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The daily quoting security sources said the Director-General of the General Customs Department, Ibrahim Al-Ghanim, acting on information formed a task force to arrest the smugglers and put the shipment under surveillance.
The daily quoting sources said after the shipment reached its destination, the container was subjected to a thorough check. The bill of lading showed the container contained a shipment of refrigerators and when the officers opened the back row of the container they found 1,550 bottles of Red Label neatly stacked in rows.
The daily added the company representative who had come to receive the shipment escaped from the scene when he sensed trouble. The shipment has been referred to the concerned authorities and legal action has been initiated against the company.
The customs source say the department will keep a vigil day and night to prevent illegal activities.
