‘You may run but you cannot hide’ Hunt for illegals begins

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is planning a statewide campaign to clean the country of illegal residents and residence law violators, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting reliable sources.
During the campaign this week the ministry inspectors are expected to visit all commercial and industrial establishments to arrest residence law violators.

The authorities say an estimated 100,000 workers are violating the residence law which means these workers are working for others instead of their original sponsors.

The sources said the decision came after the ministry discovered only 17 percent or 20,000 workers of the total number of violators had corrected their status during the amnesty period which was granted by HH the Amir which ended on June 30 this year.

The sources say the inspectors expect to arrest a large number of employees and disclose the fake companies which trade in visas.

The sources added one of the objectives of the campaign is to get rid of marginal workers who roam the streets.

It has been reported the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor have contributed to reduce a large number of marginal workers. These efforts have contributed in reducing 180,000 workers annually by regularizing the issuance of work permits.
