‘ICM trying to cover up mysterious millions row’ Govt ouster will complicate matters: Al-Shaiji

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1:  Some members of the Islamic Constitu-tional Movement (ICM) have been trying to ‘bury’ the million dinar deposit scandal, reports Al-Rai daily quoting Attorney Moham-med Al-Dalal.
Al-Dalal, who is also an ICM member, alleged the scandal is part of the political bargains between the government and certain lawmakers.  He said a few hidden fingers have been putting pressure on banks to submit details of the accounts of lawmakers to the Public Prosecution not to clarify the issue, but to mix papers and cause confusion in the political arena.  He expressed pessimism on the current position of the government due to the prevalence of corruption in the country.  He demanded for the ouster of the government to pave the way for the formation of an authority with the ability to handle national affairs efficiently.
Refuting rumors that the lawmakers have agreed to resign en masse if the grilling request against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah does not yield the desired results, Al-Dalal clarified no agreement in this regard has been reached yet, although it is one of their options in the next legislative round.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of Democratic Platform Bloc Yousef Al-Shaiji stressed the need to strictly enforce a law ratified in 1991 to preserve the Kuwaiti society.  He disclosed there are several forms of corruption besides cash, such as real estate properties, farms and animal pens.  He called for the implementation of the assets declaration bill to combat corruption.  “The dissolution of the Parliament and resignation of the government are not plausible solutions because these steps might complicate matters, especially the million deposit scandal,” he asserted.
On the stand of the ICM regarding the grilling requests, Al-Dalal confirmed the group will announce its decision after seeing the interpellation points.  He said MP Saleh Al-Mulla supports the grilling of the premier on the incidents in the diwaniya of MP Jamaan Al-Harbash, but not those related to the incidents in Bahrain.  He added the people’s right to stage sit-ins and hold street demonstrations is guaranteed by the Constitution.

KUWAIT CITY: Suggestions on adopting a single constituency system violates the Constitution, thus the ten constituency option is most appropriate, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting former lawmaker Redha Al-Hujaelan as saying.
Al-Hujaelan argued that ten constituencies allow adequate representation of the sects and components of the society in the National Assembly. He alleged the proponents of a single constituency follow Israeli political ideology.
He went on to condemn a specific lawmaker who allegedly presented a partisan proposal similar to the Iraqi Baath party system. He reiterated the Kuwaiti society shall not accept partisan politics — therefore people should understand and respect the law.
