Blocs reach accord on grilling motion against PM Deposit scandal festers

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: The Development and Reform Bloc has reached an agreement with its Popular Labor counterpart to submit a grilling motion on the million-dinar deposit scandal against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, official spokesperson of the Development and Reform Bloc MP Dr Faisal Al-Muslim disclosed the National Action Bloc has also expressed interest in participating in the motion and they are now waiting for a response from the two blocs.

In another development, Al-Muslim has forwarded questions to Finance Minister Mustafa Al-Shamali on the bonuses for ministers. He wants a detailed report on the bonuses paid to ministers from Jan 1, 2000 till date.
Meanwhile, MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaie has announced his plan to resign if the premier survives a no-confidence motion again after the submission of the grilling request against him. The lawmaker intends to present an interpellation motion against the prime minister in the next legislative round.

Moreover, MP Daifallah Buramiya presented documents showing his bank accounts and properties, as well as that of his wife and children, in a press conference at the National Assembly Wednesday.

Buramiya revealed he had only KD 2,735 in his bank account before entering the Parliament in July 2003, while the balance in some of his accounts reached KD 6,040 in previous years. In 2002, before joining the legislature, his account had KD 400,700 and after that the balance in his account did not exceed KD 224,663. He admitted the million deposit scam has raised doubts about the lawmakers. He believes the lawmakers cannot clear their names by signing statements or declaring their assets to the Speaker or the Secretariat-General because the public does not know the contents of these documents. This has prompted him to take the lead in disclosing his financial status to the people to stop the government from making false allegations for the public to hate the legislature.
