Raids on Farwaniya foodshops, butcheries, groceries

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 27: The Investigation and Services Follow-up Department at the Kuwait Municipality branch in Farwaniya launched Tuesday an intensive inspection campaign in restaurants throughout the governorate under the leadership of its director, Ajmi Al-Harbi.

Disclosing the campaign resulted in the issuance of 25 citations to erring foodstuff shops, Al-Harbi said the inspectors checked all markets, food shops, unlicensed butchers, mobile grocery stores, and those selling poultry, fish and meat. He added the inspectors took samples of food items randomly for testing at the Health Ministry laboratories to ensure they are fit for human consumption.

Al-Harbi revealed the campaign, which the department carries out regularly, is in line with ministry’s policy on ascertaining strict compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations specified by the Municipality to protect public health. He explained the violations uncovered during the campaign included failure to obtain health certificates and to renew expired certificates.
