Over 100 illegal expats caught in massive Capital crackdown Heroin found with petrol station attendant KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: Personnel from the Cap-ital governorate during a crackdown on residence law violators are said to have arrested 110 expatriates, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. The security crackdown started at around 1400 hours Wednesday and continued until 2200 hours. Of those arrested 55 persons were found to be staying in the country illegally while 54 did not carry any identification papers and one was wanted by law who had been sentenced in absentia for committing several offences. All those arrested have been referred to the concerned authorities.
Heroin seized: Police have arrested an unidentified petrol station attendant for possessing heroin, reports Al-Rai daily. The suspect was arrested from the Shuaiba Port petrol station. The daily quoting security sources said police acting on a tip-off that the man was consuming drugs arrested him on suspicion and searched his car and seized a quantity of drugs and drug consuming tools.
Selling liquor in open: An Asian man has been arrested by the police for bootlegging, reports Al-Rai daily.He was taken into custody near the Flag Square for selling booze. During interrogation the man said he works for two other men who keep an eye on him from a distance.
He added when the men saw the police arresting him, they escaped. The daily did not give more details.
Accountant nabbed: An Asian accountant working for a money exchange bureau has been arrested by the Capital Governorate police following a complaint filed by the owner of the bureau, reports Al-Anba daily. The man filed the complaint when he discovered the theft of KD 16,000 from the safe of the company. Sources say the theft was discovered when the owner asked for a surprise inventory. The man has been charged with betrayal of trust. However, when the complainant offered to withdraw the case provided the man makes good the ‘losses’ the accountant claimed there is a mistake in the accounting process.
Hunt for wanted woman: Police are looking for a Kuwaiti woman who is said to have escaped when she saw a police checkpoint off the Fifth Ring Road near Rumaithiya, reports Al-Anba daily.
Sources said the woman was with a 15-year-old female compatriot. They were riding in a four-wheel drive. She reportedly reversed and drove against the traffic and escaped.
The officers chased her but failed to find her because the woman had parked her car by the side of the road and escaped on foot.
The 15-year-old has been referred to the Rumaithiya Police Station. She is refusing to talk to the police. Police investigations are continuing.
Hoax-caller sought: An unidentified person who called the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior and claimed some Egyptians were on their way to the Ministry of Interior building to demand for their rights is being sought by police because the call turned out to be a hoax, reports Al-Rai daily.
Sources say the caller informed the department that about 1,000 persons had gathered in Hawalli and were planning to head to the Interior Ministry.
Security patrols who were rushed to the area to confront the ‘demonstrators’ found no one.
The police arrested an Arab man on suspicion but have been released. It has also been discovered that the telephone number used by the caller belongs to someone from outside Kuwait.
Victim of a bully: An eight-year-old schoolboy was reportedly severely beaten and bruised by his school mate inside a school in Andalus, reports Al-Rai daily.
The father of the boy is said to have called upon the school authorities to look into the issue because no teacher seems to have either failed to take note of the incident or they just want to close an eye to the incident.The father added his son always cries when he goes to pick him near the school gate after school hours.
He added the female teachers at the school had no convincing explanation to what has happened.
He said all they could say was maybe the child fell in spite of the child telling repeatedly he was beaten by an older student during break time.
Charity box stolen: Police are looking for an unidentified burglar for stealing a charity box from a mosque in Hawalli, reports Al-Shahed daily. Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department have lifted fingerprints to identify the thief. Meanwhile, police are looking for a thief who broke into the home of an Egyptian man at an unidentified location and escaped with jewelry, reports Al-Shahed daily. Drunkard flattens fence: Police have arrested an unidentified person for driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing into the fence of a Kuwaiti home in Adailiya, reports Alam Alyawm daily. The daily quoting security sources said the owner of the house rushed when he heard a loud bang and was shocked to see the fence flattened on the ground.He called the Operations Department of the Interior Ministry and when police arrived they found the motorist was high on alcohol.He was so drunk he could not even move from the seat.
