Brothers kill stepmother Hearing adjourned in murder case

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: The Criminal Court on Thursday decided to adjourn hearings in the trial of two Kuwaiti brothers accused of murdering the Syrian wife of their father.
The hearing was adjourned until Oct 12 pending final review process. Case papers indicate that the victim was leaving her mother’s house along with her six-year-old son when the suspects attacked her. One of the brothers used a gun to shoot the woman several times despite the screams of her mother and son. During interrogation, the other brother claimed that he did not know that his brother was planning to kill the woman. He added that they were angry due to their father’s increasing absence from home as he was spending more time with his Syrian wife.

Syrian acquitted: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted a Syrian of betrayal of trust after overturning the ruling of the Court of First Instance, which had earlier fined him KD100.
Case files indicate the Syrian convinced the plaintiff to put up a food business with a capital of KD20,000. However, after receiving the money, the accused allegedly disappeared without handing over the food items to the plaintiff.
Attorney Khalid Al-Saadi, lawyer for the accused, argued there are no elements of criminal intent in the case filed against his client. He raised doubts on the statements of the plaintiff, pointing out the erroneous application of judicial regulations in the filing of the case. After carefully weighing the arguments and pieces of evidence presented by both sides, the court acquitted the Syrian due to lack of incriminating evidence.
The session was presided over by Judge Hassan Al-Shimmari.

Bank violates law: The commercial section of the Court of First Instance ruled that a local bank had no right to modify the interest rate that was agreed upon with one of its clients while granting him a loan. The citizen’s lawyer said the bank has been deducting re-payment installments according to a rate higher than the rate agreed upon at the time of granting the loan. The lawyer said the commercial law does not approve of charging any interest besides the original interest as it violates the law and instructions issued by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), in addition to the conditions mentioned in the contract
