No foul play seen in Filipina's death: report Remains flown home
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 19: The remains of Juvy Montesoso, the Filipina whose body was found on a basketball court on August 5, 2011 after allegedly falling off the building’s terrace in one of the accommodation buildings for American expatriates in Fintas were finally repatriated on Monday after Kuwaiti authorities have completed their investigation and concluded that there was no foul play on the cause of her death, disclosed Dalidig Ibrahim Tanandatu, the Head of the Assistance to Nationals Unit at the Philippine Embassy.
Montesoso, 32, a single mother and a native of Talisay, Cebu City in the Philippines who was working as a receptionist in that building was found by the security personnel, lying flat on her back, a few meters away from the basket of the basketball court.
“According to the medical findings handed to us by Col. Hamad Al-Enezi, the Chief of the Farwaniya Forensic Department, Montesoso suffered fractures due to fall from the height and the results showed no foul play,” cited Tanandatu. He added that authorities theorized that she might have fallen accidentally off the terrace. However, Montesoso’s relatives in the Philippines including her cousin here continue to look for answers on what caused her death.
“I don’t believe that she fell accidentally off the terrace. It’s also impossible that she committed suicide especially that she has a six-year-old daughter in the Philippines, besides she’s a happy and strong person,” stressed her cousin.
Eyewitnesses earlier told the Arab Times that Montesoso was seen together with her American boyfriend at a money exchange centre in Fahaheel to send money to her family to the Philippines on the night before her death. Her boyfriend who is stationed in one of the US camps in Kuwait was reportedly investigated by Kuwaiti authorities. “We have been informed by Col. Waleed Al Adrayeh, the Chief of the Ahmadi Governorate Criminal Investigation Department that they detained Montesoso’s American boyfriend for four days for investigation but he was later released by the authorities after there was no sufficient evidence linking him to her death ,” pointed out Tanandatu.
He added that Forensic authorities told the embassy that the victim’s family in the Philippines may conduct another autopsy on Montesoso’s remains if they wish, to clear all their doubts. “Should they decide to have her remains autopsied again in the Philippines and if they find any sign of foul play, then they can send the autopsy report to the embassy so we can re-open the investigation of the case,” explained Tanandatu.
The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait through the funds provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila facilitated the repatriation of Montesoso’s remains to the Philippines.
