Dissolution of govt only option: MP Blocs perfect plans to grill Prime Minister
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 18: “The government will be dissolved before the start of the coming parliamentary session as mass resignation remains the only way out of the crises that have engulfed it from all sides,” Al-Rai daily quoted MP Naji Al-Abdulhadi as saying.
He said considering the number of interpellations awaiting the government, it has no better option than to dodge and resign. “The government knows very well that the issues won’t go away even after the interpellations because votes of no-confidence await several ministers, including the prime minister. And the multimillion dinar scandal could be added to the other issues on which the prime minister would be grilled,” he added.
Speaking of the low cost housing law, the lawmaker said the parliamentary housing affairs committee has noticed the way the government is handling it.
“The committee would invite the housing minister to explain why the sum of KD 300,000 was expended on conducting a study on low cost housing and why the study was discarded and another study ordered,” he said.
Meanwhile, Al-Anba daily reported that the Popular Action and Reform and Development blocs perfected their plans to grill the prime minister.
Sources said the blocs held a series of meetings during which roles were distributed and issues agreed upon.
The blocs are said to have agreed on three issues, the first of which is the deliberate squashing of sessions by the government.
The second is the government’s stance against the legislation of an anti-corruption bill, while the third is its failure to take appropriate measures on the multimillion dinar scandal. Furthermore, Al-Shahed daily quoted MP Falah Al-Sawagh as saying that the grilling request of the Popular and Reform and Development blocs would be presented at the start of the coming parliamentary session, while another one, which is currently at the Constitutional Court, would be at the National Assembly by October.
The lawmaker said the government is deliberately employing the strategy of asserting pressure on lawmakers to do its biddings. He called on the people to differentiate between a lawmaker who pursues personal goals for electoral gains and those who work for the interest of the country.
