The Society of Engineers said to promote Kuwait ‘Institutions serve as our inspiration, model’
KUWAIT had been playing a leading role in the practices of the Arab civil community institutions for years. It is worth mentioning that these institutions have been pioneers in political, cultural and economic fields since the declaration of independence until before the invasion when the activity was pushed back due to the practices of the government.
Now we see the resumption of this activity in some institutions like the Kuwait Society of Engineers, considering their achievements in previous years. We hope the government will change its attitude and assist in the development of civil society institutions, especially since these societies and syndicates greatly contribute in the preparation of technical reports in their respective fields to be part of the development process.
We will never forget that Kuwait became famous when HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the time, the country gained prominence in the international community due to its accomplishments in various sectors — political, economic and social.
Even the international community encouraged the Kuwaiti civil community institutions to highlight Kuwaiti trends in world forums, giving their members a chance to occupy leadership posts in global and regional organizations.
We hope the incumbent government follows in the footsteps of the Amir in strengthening the presence and activating the role of the civil community institutions at the local and international levels.
On Sept 9, 2011, Eng Adel Al-Jarallah Al-Kharafi was voted president of the International Union of Engineering Organizations at a conference in Geneva from Sept 4-9. This is an important and influential post because the organization comprises of 75 member states.
This international position is an added value to the artistic and political status of Kuwait in the international community but it should not be the last. We have seen several attempts at the global level to occupy such a significant position.
We should be proud of the efforts exerted by the young men and women in the Kuwait Society of Engineers, particularly when they spearheaded negotiations with the representatives of different states during the conference to convince them that Kuwait has the ability to take over the presidency of the organization.
We must also highlight other achievements of Kuwait, especially when it won in two United Nations (UN) committees in favor of the Kuwaiti engineers.
The Kuwait Society of Engineers and other similar institutions serve as our inspiration and model. Let them motivate us to obtain vital regional and international posts to promote the name of Kuwait.
