Call for probe as rape of maid ‘buried’ in MP, police scheme Lawmaker Hayef bemoans corruption
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud must take the necessary action against a citizen, who raped and impregnated a housemaid, especially since a lawmaker is said to have intervened for the release of the accused, MP Mohammed Hayef said Monday.
Hayef said the citizen allegedly asked the housemaid to abort the child and she is now facing deportation amidst attempts by some parties to cover up the case. He wondered why the concerned authorities have not carried out a thorough investigation on the case. He asked, “Has the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) become the opponent, referee and judge at the same time? Do we live in a country with institutions and laws or a government weighed down by a number of issues like anarchy, money laundering, embezzlement of public funds, infringement and rape? Are we in a country with corrupt authorities and officials who are above the law?”
While urging the minister to cancel the decision on the deportation of the housemaid, Hayef also called for the return of the accused to the CID and refer him to the Public Prosecution to ensure that justice is served. He said the minister should form an investigative panel to probe into the case and take the necessary measures against the corrupt officials. He pointed out this is a clear manifestation that corruption is rampant in the CID, which has conspired with a lawmaker to cover up the case.
Expressing disappointment on the current situation in the Ministry of Interior, Hayef asserted, “We are now back to square one in terms of handling issues concerning the ministry officials, similar to what happened in the torture death of Mohammed Al-Maimouni.”
