Romanian trio caught fleeing with money stolen from bank Kuwaiti couple complains police indifference
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 11: Police have recently foiled the attempt of three Romanians to leave the country with KD 60,000, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to security sources the men withdrew the money from the ATM machines of the National Bank of Kuwait using forged credit cards after copying the data from foreign banks.
A security source said the suspects arrived into Kuwait last Thursday. The source also said one of the suspects had with him 20 forged credit cards carrying different names and different banks and withdrew KD 9,000 from an ATM machine.
Security manager of the NBK, Khaled Al-Matrouk, who was following the withdrawal processes, doubted the transactions and soon contacted the Undersecretary of the Criminal Security Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Al-Khalifah and instructions were given for the arrest of the three men.
A security source said the forgers managed to withdraw KD 60,000 in a matter of two days — Thursday and Friday. The men were caught red-handed in possession with the money.
Police indifference: A Kuwaiti man, identified as M.A., recently walked into the Al-Rai newspaper office and complained about the police, particularly the policemen of the Rumaithiya Police Station, says the daily.
The man claimed the police did not come to the rescue of his wife and three daughters when an unidentified Asian frightened them.
He went on to say this happened when his wife mistakenly hit the car which was parked on the side of the road at an unidentified location. An eyewitness directed the woman to the owner of the car because she wanted to bear the cost of repairs.
However, the owner of the car turned out to be an Asian and he became furious and attempted to attack his wife. In fright the woman locked the car windows and remained inside.
The wife called the husband who arrived and called the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior. However no police came to the scene of the accident so he asked his wife to escape.
M.A. said he received a call from the Rumaithiya Police Station telling he and his wife should come in person. It is strange police refused to file a complaint.
Maid attempts suicide: An Indonesian housemaid in a vain attempt to end her life reportedly slit her wrist inside her sponsor’s home in Farwaniya, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to reports after slitting her wrist the maid locked herself inside her room and the sponsor after failing to get a response from the victim called the Operations Department of the Interior Ministry.
Police and paramedics rushed to the house, forced open the door and found the maid sprawled on the floor in a pool of blood.
A case of suicide attempt has been registered against her. Police are waiting for her to recover to find out why she wanted to end her life.
Custodial death probed: The Criminal Investigation Department is questioning a police lieutenant and a first sergeant concerning the death of an Indian in police custody, reports Al-Shahed daily.
However, according to the testimony of the suspects the Indian was hysterical and in order to prevent him from hitting his head on the prison bars they had handcuffed him to prevent him from harming himself and others.
It has also been reported the Indian was constantly screaming and when other prisoners shouted for help, they found the Indian’s health had deteriorated.
Acting on information paramedics rushed to the police station but failed to save the man.
