Mystery as whisky-laden truck taken at gunpoint, abandoned
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 4: The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department Brigadier Mahmoud Al-Tabbakh has ordered to form a team of experts to solve the mystery surrounding the smuggling of alcoholic substances into the country and kidnapping of three people from a public road, reports Al-Anba daily.
Giving details of this very strange case, a security source said the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior received a call from an Egyptian trucker who said he was driving along the Seventh Ring Road with two Asian labourers.
He went on to say two men armed with guns forced them to pull over, chained them and abandoned them in an uninhabited area and escaped with the truck.
The source added about one hour after receiving the call, the Department received information that the truck was stuck in the sand in a desert in Arifjan.
Police rushed to the area and found the stolen truck was loaded with about 850 cartons of whisky.
The source said the bill of lading shows the truck carries a cargo of stationery. Police are investigating how the shipment was ‘smuggled’ out of the port.
Drunkard stirs nuisance: Police have arrested a Kuwaiti man for consuming alcohol, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The daily added the arrest came when the man who was attending a function at the Gharnata Theater in Khaitan, went backstage and requested pictures to be taken of his children with the actors.
The organizers attempted to force the man and his children leave the stage, but the ‘drunkard’ stood his ground and even some youths supported his demand.
There was commotion and the about 1,200 people who were in the hall rushed to the door in a vain attempt to escape and some women fainted.
The drunkard and some youths who reportedly attacked the organizers have been referred to the authorities.
‘Smart’ burglar: Police are looking for an unidentified burglar for breaking into seven homes in the Sa’ad Al-Abdullah residential city, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to reports the burglar knew inside out about the city and was certain that the families of the homes he broke into were out of the country.
He allegedly got into the compound by climbing over the fence and into the houses by cutting the iron bars of windows with electric cutter.
Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department have lifted fingerprints to identify the culprit.
