‘Too many grilling requests hurt popularity of Islamists’ Salafist Bloc members meet Amir

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 3: “The too many interpellations submitted in the last National Assembly negatively affected the popularity of the Islamists and led to the absence of some of their members in the current parliament,” Al-Shahid daily quoted MP Dr Ali Al-Omair as saying.
Speaking after the meeting of the Salafist Bloc members with HH the Amir, Al-Omair said they discussed several issues with HH the Amir and expressed concern on the political tension caused by the dissolution of four governments and two parliaments. “We expressed our readiness to cooperate with anyone chosen by HH the Amir even if it is Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah despite our reservations that the latter’s reputation was stained by the financial transactions. The Amir, however, was very firm in his response and told us to hold Sheikh Nasser accountable for any mistake proved to be committed by him, even if it concerns financial issues, said Al-Omair. He added that the Amir is ready to refer any proven case to the Public Prosecution.
Al-Omair rejected all the fierce criticism leveled at the Salafist Bloc, saying the critics take to the streets in an uncivilized and unconstitutional manner while we go to HH the Amir to express our concerns. He said the bloc has resolved to grill the minister of information over national unity issues.
Meanwhile, Al-Qabas daily reported that Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah will return back from leave on Sunday and that the Cabinet will hold its weekly meeting on Tuesday. Sources said the ministerial legal committee will hold a meeting on Monday to deliberate on adding the asset declaration cause to the anti-corruption bill, in order to quench the political furor ignited by the omission earlier. There are suggestions to provide protection to whistleblowers in the clause, while lawmakers, politicians, public office holders, and other top leaders would be required to declare their financial status in accordance with laid down principles.
Furthermore, sources said the Cabinet, during its meeting on Tuesday, will look into the political developments generated by the KD 25 million scam and added that the coming week might witness new developments in the issue.
In another development, sources said security agents are gearing up to handle the September 16 demonstrations in accordance with the law.
