No. of driving licences granted expats to be reduced New traffic law to be implemented next yr

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 26: Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmed Al-Hmoud was recently quoted as saying that at the beginning of next year a new traffic law will be put into effect, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

He added some modifications are being made to the law. He stressed the main purpose is to control the traffic and reduce violations and accidents.

The new law, sources say, includes a number of procedures to deter reckless driving. This will include doubling the prison term for motorists committing serious offences and reducing the number of driving licenses given to expatriates.

He clarified the traffic violations committed by those who do not respect the law endanger the lives of people. This matter necessitates toughening the penalties. He added the modifications are aimed at confronting the violators not to increase fines.

The coming phase, the minister said, will witness intensive spread of traffic patrols on roads and at traffic lights to monitor the traffic movement and arrest the violators particularly those who cross the red light.
In other news, the interior minister was all praise for securitymen who work round the clock to prevent infiltrations into the country through the borders.

He added teams of securitymen in civilian clothes now pursue illegal residents who have failed to take advantage of the Amiri amnesty. These people are considered a danger to the society, he said.

Help us, God!!Roslin Mary Mathew | 8/27/2011 9:14:43 AM As usual, the blame & punishment must fall on someone. But as far as I've seen, in my years here in Kwt, many if not all expats & locals, have misused the facilities given here, one way or the other. If anyone has even a little fear of God in them, they will behave properly and see to the safety of one and all.
