Iranian fined for drink-driving, bad behaviour

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: The Court of Appeals recently upheld the verdict of a lower court and fined the accused, an Iranian citizen KD 200 for drinking alcohol and unacceptable behavior in public place.
The Public Prosecution had charged the defendant with drinking alcohol after he was arrested at a police check point in Hawalli around 6:00 am. The defendant reportedly insulted the officer when he was asked to show his identification papers.
The officer then asked the man if he was drunk and the response was affirmative. The man was arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution.
The defense lawyer Mohammad Al-Majid said the police officer gave contradictory statements by stating at one point that he had seized two cups of alcohol from the suspect and at other time saying he had seized two bottles of alcohol.
He also claimed his client was not drunk. He added if his client was drunk he would not have answered the officer in a proper manner. He also faulted the procedures adopted by the officer.
