OWA eyes steps to demand for oil workers’ proposed pay raise CSC chief, Al-Busairi, Al-Zubun may meet after Eid

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: The Oil Workers Association (OWA) has organized a special general assembly meeting to discuss the steps to be taken to demand for the immediate approval of the proposed privileges for the oil sector workers, reports Al-Anba daily quoting head of the association Abdulaziz Al-Sharthan.

Al-Sharthan lamented the concerned officials have taken the demands of the workers for granted and delayed the approval of their rights, including the increase in their allowances and salaries. He pointed out there have been many technical, scientific and professional studies conducted on the issue to guide the government in taking a wise decision, but no tangible step has been taken until now.

Meanwhile, sources revealed there are indications that Head of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud, Minister of Oil Dr Mohammad Al-Busairi and permanent secretary of the CSC Abdulaziz Al-Zubun will meet after the Eid Al-Fitr holidays to approve the proposed increase in the allowances of workers in the oil sector.

Furthermore, Chairperson of the Workers Union at Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) Mohammad Al-Ajmi said the oil sector has a bleak future due to political interference. He cited as a case in point the attitude of the government, which has politicized every issue in the sector; thereby, contributing to its further decline.

He warned the economy of Kuwait will be ruined if the problem is not addressed immediately.
