‘Kuwait in bad need of its natives’ Let every hand act as one to shore up economy

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah called Monday on all nationals to cooperate in tackling defects in the national economy, stressing that all citizens must join hands for welfare of the current and coming generations.

“We should observe and fathom, as wisdom dictates, the changes and developments taking place in our world. We should sense the hazards of the international economic crisis and its negative effects on our national economy, and we should work as a single hand to tackle the flaws in the economic conditions,” said  the Amir in his address to the people of Kuwait on the occasion of the last ten days of Ramadan.
The Amir stated that he had tasked, several days ago, a group of skilled experts, headed by HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, to look into the best practical means to tackle the economic conditions, shore it up for the sake of realizing comprehensive development and meet aspirations of the citizens who look forward to a secure and prosperous future for the next generations.
“Undoubtedly this national approach is a responsibility that should be shouldered by all, for you all are responsible subjects, and this warrants understanding, positive cooperation and serious work for realizing the aspired objectives,”  the Amir said.

“In this respect, I have called on the government to rapidly enact a special law for establishing the national authority for combating corruption and refer it to the National Assembly, meet all the requirements for ensuring success of this authority so it may be able to undertake its responsibilities, ensure that all relevant government acts are done properly in the framework of transparency, integrity, justice to boost the national action on the right path, for corruption is detrimental to the approaches of reforms and development,”  the Amir said.

The Amir called for employing the potentials of the youth and encouraging them to take part in the national development. “This can be achieved through reforming and developing our educational institutions and curriculums,” he said.

Sheikh Sabah urged the youth to concentrate on education and refrain from fruitless activities. In this respect, he called on parents to play their role as guides for their children “so that they remain on the path that keeps them united with the homeland, adherent to their doctrine, for Kuwait now is in bad need of its natives.”

The Amir called for cooperation among authorities of the state. “Such an aspired cooperation should be based on dialogue, exchange of views and consultation in a democratic spirit, free from fiery rhetoric, for consensus on the best opinion that serves the homeland at present and in the future,” he elaborated.
He expressed confidence that the Kuwaitis would back the authorities in “facing all obstacles hindering the development of the country.”

As to liberties, he said, “The freedom of speech is guaranteed for all. However, this does not mean that it can be used to infringe on our national unity and the basic principles that we have known and were adopted by our ancestors.

“Therefore, I call on the managers of the printed, visual and audio press to manifest keenness on safeguarding the homeland and practise their role with awareness and responsibility without any misleading, exaggeration or harm to the homeland.”

On the famine crisis in the African Horn, the Amir expressed deep distress at the famine and drought in Somalia, where thousands of children, women and men, had to flee their hometowns; a tragedy which had led to the death of many people. He noted the aid allocated by Kuwait for the famine victims and greeted all those who have helped the people there cope with the catastrophe.

The Amir cautioned that Kuwait is not separate from the arena of external conflicts, fed with racism, interests and personal tendencies. “We have been following the regrettable and worrying conditions in the sisterly countries and we have been deeply distressed by the destruction and loss of souls and potentials. We wish these countries calm, stability and safety, and wish their peoples success in realising aspirations and hopes.”

The Amir urged the local media to refrain from touching on issues that may affect the relations with other states and “leave such matters to be handled by the relevant authorities, through the diplomatic channels.” He urged the citizens to be united in the devotion for Kuwait, sacrifice for the homeland, protection of its security and sanctity, following the example of the ancestors.

The Amir, on the holy occasion, recalled the late Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and the late Father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, praying to His Almighty to bless their souls with His forgiveness.

Sheikh Sabah congratulated the nationals on the remaining days of the holy month, wishing to witness prosperity for Kuwait, the Arab and Muslim nations. He urged the people to remain adherent to the values of religion and abstain from excessive spending.
