MoI urges motorists not to use stickers inciting tribal divisions ‘Govt to deal ruthlessly with violators’
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 20: It has come to the notice of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) that some motorists do not comply with the series of warnings and ignore Article 207 of the executive traffic law that authorizes traffic officers to impound any type of vehicles bearing unofficial stickers, pictures, writings or slogans which incite sectarian or tribal divisions.
The ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Dr Mustafa Al-Za’abe made the disclosure and said some motorists continue to drive around with strange stickers to cause political, tribal or sectarian disaffection, which threatens national unity and Islamic values upon which the country thrives.
He observed that the youth have cultivated the habit of tainting vehicle windscreens, which is a source of division against cooperation, brotherhood, love and harmony that bind the country together. He said the government has decided to deal ruthlessly with any motorist who violates proper traffic conducts against the country’s unity.
He revealed that traffic officers will henceforth impound vehicles under violation and keep them inside the ministry garages without taking responsibility for any damage to the vehicles, in line with article 208 of Traffic Law.
Also, a technical examiner would certify the complete removal of stickers before the vehicles are released to the owners. He added that article 36 of Traffic Law stipulates a maximum of KD 15 fine for tinted-glass vehicles, which will be impounded for two months until the tint is removed. He disclosed that traffic officers have recorded 21,466 of such violations since the first half of 2011.
According to the Director of Public Relations and Moral Guidance Colonel Adel Al-Hashash, the appearance of some vehicles, including those with tinted glass, do not encourage national unity and peaceful co-existence in the country. He urged citizens and expatriates to cooperate in order to phase out this negative attitude from our society. He warned the youths should maintain good conduct and abide by traffic regulations to avoid the wrath of law.
