Court acquits police officer of raping Asian woman in detention ‘Appeals’ upholds acquittal verdict against three accused of trading in drugs

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: The Appeals Court upheld the verdict of a lower court and acquitted three expatriates of charges of consuming and trading in drugs.
Case papers indicate that the investigation officer acquired a warrant to search the house of the first suspect who he learned was engaged in drug trading. On reaching the house, he saw the second suspect who allegedly tried to flee on seeing the officer. The second suspect reportedly confessed that he too was into drug trading and led the officer to the third suspect. The third suspect too is said to have confessed to importing drugs from the US.
It is not clear how the charges were proved wrong.

Police officer acquitted: The Court of Cassation acquitted a police officer of raping an Asian woman inside the cell of a police station, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The plaintiff alleged that the police officer had taken advantage of her while in detention and collected two mobile phones. She added the officer molested her during inspection, after which she was taken to an empty room inside the same police station and raped.
However, the defense lawyer disputed the claims and the court subsequently acquitted the defendant of all charges, following intensive investigation.

‘Liquor trader’ acquitted:
The Misdemeanor Court acquitted a citizen of possessing and trading in liquor, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to the case file, the citizen was arrested in Hawalli by a police officer for the possession of 12 bottles   of Red Label, which he kept hidden inside his car, and the citizen with the contraband was referred to concerned authority.
The defense attorney Hanadi Shukrullah asked the court to acquit her client because the report of Criminal Evidences Department showed he had a bottle of whisky and not 12 bottles as the investigators claimed. She also argued that the process of arrest and inspection was illegitimate, since no warrant had been obtained from the Public Prosecution for that purpose.
