Kuwait environment society registers million green acts KSPE takes part in Earth Day Network contest

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 17, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti Society for the Preservation of the Environment announced registering half a million green acts so far under the name of the State of Kuwait as entries in Earth Day Network’s “A Billion Acts of Green” contest.
The organizer of the Kuwaiti participation Jenan Behzad told KUNA Wednesday that the campaign aims to list over one million green acts to show Kuwait’s belief in, commitment, to and contribution in support of environmental initiatives. This would indicate the Kuwaiti society’s awareness and care when it comes to the environment and our planet.
The activities include initiatives to improve management of indoor environment through cleaning ventilation and air-conditioning systems’ filters once a month, reducing temperatures aimed at when heating water, reducing amount of water heated, replacing old appliances and opting for energy-smart ones, as well as checking efficiency regularly.
There is also the preference to use green cleaning products that are based on natural rather than chemical substances, and these are to cover use inside the house, in home gardens, in garages, and so on. There is also a possibility of reducing dust and allergens through refraining from use of chemical pesticides and devices and equipment which raise dust.
Behzad also noted people have the green option of reducing use and waste of paper. This includes use of email for office communications, using recycled paper for printers and faxes and like, and using environment-friendly ink to print documents.
Water management is also a priority, and people can reduce waste through regular and thorough check to avoid leaks, installation of smart faucets and pumps, better management of chores such as washing of kitchen utensils, and reducing waste via purchasing in bulk to reduce packaging. There is also the option of using shopping totes instead of plastic or paper shopper bags, whether canvas or any other material that allows for prolonged use of the same bag.
Behzad urged all state and private institutions in Kuwait to take part in the campaign to reach the target of one million acts of green and to record their initiatives and efforts through contacting the society at its headquarters in Shuwaikh Area.
More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.
All of Earth Day Network’s activities, whether greening schools or promoting green economic policies at home and abroad, inform and energize populations so they will act to secure a healthy future for themselves and their children, EDN stresses on its website.
