Expat acquitted in molestation case Section head freed in bribery, forgery
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 13: The Court of Appeals upheld the ruling of a lower court, which acquitted the head of a section at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor of bribery and forging official documents.
Case files indicate the Public Prosecution has charged the section head with forging work permits of the employees at an undisclosed company, in his capacity as a public officer, from 2008 to 2009. Investigations revealed the accused has accepted bribes in exchange for forging the work permits.
Attorney Ali Al-Asfour, lawyer for the accused, asked the court to acquit his client due to lack of incriminating evidence. He accused the investigators of engaging in pure guess work. He said no benefit could be established in favor of his client with the whole accusation and the bribery issue was a wild goose chase.
Expat acquitted: The Appeals Court cancelled the decision of the Court of First Instance that sentenced an expatriate to 5 years imprisonment with hard labor for molesting a Kuwaiti woman. He was made to sign a pledge of good conduct.
The case file indicates that the woman had gone to a commercial complex and the defendant tried to molest her.
However, the defendant’s attorney Mohammad Al-Ajmi described the accusation as illogical which the victim had fabricated since the elements of crime are not present. He stressed that the suspect did not coerce or threaten the complainant, even if the story is true. He wondered how the suspect could have molested the woman in front of many people inside a commercial complex and she wouldn’t even call for help.
Illegals nabbed: Security operatives apprehended six residency law violators from various areas in the Capital governorate. The suspects have since been referred to the concerned authority for necessary legal action.
Drug pills seized: Customs operatives at the Abdalli border exit confiscated about 3,000 narcotic pills that were hidden inside the clothes of a foreigner.
The suspect with the contraband was referred to the Drug Control General Department for further investigation.
Indian arrested: Police arrested an Indian truck driver for damaging state property - a fence - at Salmi border post, reports Al-Anba daily.
The driver who was coming from Saudi Arabia lost control on the truck and rammed into the fence.
