Municipality team members check meat inside one of the centers
Centers preparing Iftar meals raided; 1.5 tonnes ‘unfit’ fish seized

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 12: The emergency team at the Kuwait Municipality branch in the Capital has raided several centers responsible for preparing Iftar meals distributed to mosques and charity societies, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.
Sources revealed the team discovered the centers’ failure to abide by the sanitation regulations.  Sources said the team found frozen cockroaches in freezers and live ones on walls, in addition to large quantities of expired meat and chicken to be used for preparing the Iftar meals.  The team also discovered spoilt grape leaves and strawberry fillings.
The team leader, Tareq Al-Qattan, vowed the Municiplaity will not tolerate such violations and it will continuously monitor restaurants and food preparation centers to ensure the safety of consumers.
Al-Qattan has warned against buying fruits and unpasteurized milk from street vendors. He said nine such vendors were apprehended in Al-Doha, Al-Sulaibikhat, Al-Rawdha, Al-Qadisiya and Al-Adailiya.
He called on citizens not to buy such products especially since they are displayed under very high temperatures and thus not fit for human consumption.

1.5 tonnes ‘unfit’ fish seized: Kuwait’s Municipality has been tightening its inspectional measures on foods entering the country at land and marine borders and airports.
Municipality inspectors are ready to expose those who try to bring in expired or internationally non-compliant foods into the country, Municipality Chairman, Ahmad Al-Sabeeh told KUNA.
Those who break the laws on the issue will be brought to justice, and the law is applicable to all, he added.
Regular inspectional raids targeting food distributors continue to function, and the official praised the role of the media in highlighting these endeavors.
Meanwhile, a 1.5 tonne shipment of fish was prevented from entering the country at the southern Nuwaiseeb border exit.
The shipment was disposed of accordingly, as it was not fit for human consumption, the Municipality said. (KUNA)
