KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6:  In coming days, citizens and residents may carry their dead relatives to the cemeteries in private cars since the Ministry of Finance has declined to extend the maintenance contracts of hearses with the relevant companies, reports Al-Rai daily.
A senior official from the Kuwait Municipality was quoted as saying the ministry has yet to approve a new tender in that regard. This compelled the Municipality to allot 1,000 dinars to the Funerals Department to manage affairs until the Ministry of Finance approves a new tender, even though the step is illegal.
He noted that hearses and cars, including tankers, buses and vans, belonging to the Department of Funerals have been in deplorable condition ever since the maintenance contract ended months ago.
