Sick, weak sheep auctioned illegally for local market use 5 men, women held for begging, to be deported

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: The inspection teams at Kuwait Municipality recently uncovered the illegal activities of some unauthorized butchers, who carry out their work in certain areas in Al-Rai, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources. Sources revealed the Monitoring and Inspection Sector at the Municipality discovered a few days before the holy month of Ramadan a public auction on sick and weak sheep - a clear violation of the Municipality regulations since there was no official from the Capital Slaughterhouse supervising the auction. Sources said a large number of sheep not safe for human consumption have been slaughtered.

Meanwhile, another source blamed officials at the slaughterhouse for their failure to closely monitor the activities of the illegal butchers. The source pointed out a large number of sheep entered the market before Ramadan, adding a selection process resulted in the isolation of sick and weak animals as they cannot be consumed by humans. He said these very same animals are the ones being sold at the auction and being slaughtered with no official monitoring in temperatures that exceed 50 degrees Celsius by unqualified and unauthorized personnel.

Selling food during day: Three owners of shops selling foodstuffs have been summoned by the concerned authority for interrogation after the employees were caught selling foodstuffs to some Asian people during daytime, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily quoting security sources said an unidentified person called the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior and a police patrol dispatched to the area confiscated the Civil IDs of the concerned employee. The owners are said to have signed pledges not to sell foodstuffs to customers during day time. However, the daily did not mention if anyone was caught eating the foodstuff inside the shops.

Beggars arrested: Police are said to have arrested three women for begging for alms, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. According to reports the women are a Somali, a Syrian and a bedoun. They were caught begging for alms inside a market in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. In another incident, police are also said to have arrested two Syrians for begging for alms. They were caught near a mosque in Ardhiya All those arrested have been referred to the concerned authorities to prepare their deportation from the country. It has also been reported their sponsors will be summoned for interrogation and necessary action taken against them. The government has formed teams comprising personnel from the Ministries of Interior, Commerce and Industry and the Kuwait Municipality to get rid of the begging menace in Kuwait particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

Bedoun held with drugs: The Fa-rwaniya police have arrested an unidentified bedoun man for possessing drugs, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. The man was taken into custody in Al-Riqqa. According to reports the man ordered to pull over for reckless driving and while issuing a citation, police discovered the man was disoriented. Police then searched his car and found 253 drug pills. The pills and the suspect have been referred to the General Department for Drug Control.

Asian run over killed: The remains of an unidentified Asian man who was run over by a Kuwaiti man on the Fahaheel Expressway have been referred to Forensics, reports Al-Rai daily. The Kuwaiti has been detained for interrogation. The victim reportedly died on the spot.

Money stolen from bag: A Kuwait woman has filed a complaint with the Sharq Police Station accusing an unidentified person of stealing KD 200 from her handbag, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. In her complaint she told police she works for a government department and the money went missing from her bag when she left her seat for a few minutes. Police are investigating.

Fisherman robbed: An Egyptian fisherman has filed a complaint with the police accusing three unidentified persons of stealing his money, reports Al-Anba daily. In his complaint the man said the suspects stole KD 480 and he gave police the description of the men.
Police are looking for the men to summon them for interrogation.

Cell phones stolen: Police are looking for unidentified persons for stealing 40 cell phones and 20 cell phone lines from a shop, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In his complaint to the area police station the owner of the shop said the stolen goods and the lines are worth KD 3,000. A case has been registered.

Woman suffers asphyxiation: A 24-year-old Kuwaiti woman suffering from asphyxiation was rushed to the Amiri Hospital by paramedics, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. According to reports the woman became unconscious when fire destroyed part of her house in a suburb of Al-Sha’ab. Acting on information firemen rushed to the spot and put out the fire before it destroyed other parts of the house. It is not known what caused the fire or the extent of damage the fire has done to the house.

3 Egyptian men, woman hurt as water boiler explodes: A boiler exploded inside a flat on the first floor of a residential building in Hawally, causing injuries to a woman and three Egyptian men. Securitymen and medical emergency workers were dispatched to the location immediately after the Operations Room received information on the incident. High ranking officials were at hand to supervise the rescue operations. The emergency team saved two children who were trapped inside the flat whose wall collapsed due to the explosion. They also took the injured, a woman and three Egyptian men, to Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital. Investigations are ongoing to determine the actual circumstances leading to the explosion.
