Goodyear Tires tighten grip atop FBAA Bhasin Co, Worley Parsons stay in touch

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 1: Goodyear Tires strengthened their hold on the top spot in the 21st FBAA Filipino Badminton Association of Ahmadi (FBAA) 6th Goodyear Tires Cup at the Fahaheel Sports Club Fahaheel Sports Center, Friday. Goodyear Tires, who took the lead last week after a tough competition from some of their rivals, found the going tough but they proved to be the best again by holding on to the top spot with 120 match wins and 354 points. Bhasin Co were in second place with 103 wins and 313 points followed by Worley Parsons Resource & Energy with the same number of match victories but 300 points.
AMEC were in 4th place with 95 wins and 280 points while Wataniya Telecom had wins and 254 points, Western Union Money Transfer 79 wins and 235 points and holding up the table in 7th place were the Almailem squad with 72 wins and 229 points.

The event is being held over the following six categories: Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s Higher C, Men’s Lower C, Ladies A/B and Mixed C. Each team consists of 4 players and 10 matches will be played by each squad in each category . The scoring system is based on the accumulated number of matches and total set points with the top four teams in each category advancing to the semifinals. Goodyear Tires owe their domination to the fact that they are leading in two of these categories while doing well in the other four groups.Good year were Ahead in Ladies A/B ans Mixed C while Bhasin Co were the best so far in Men’s Higher C and Men’s Lower C with Wataniya Telecom the best in Men’s A and AMEC were leading Men’s B.

A team can have more points than the squad above it although it might have triumphed in fewer matches as three points are awarded to the pairs which win their matches in two sets with the losers getting nothing while for the games which go to three sets, the winners get two points and the losers get one.
This tournament still has action on the coming two Fridays before it ends on 12 August, 2001 and is being organized by FBAA President Ronald Margate and his dedicated team of office-bearers who have put in a lot of effort to ensure that this event runs as smoothly as all the previous ones.
