Working hours - During Ramadan Residence - Article 14A
I want to inform you that in this Holy month of Ramadan our company — an engineering and construction firm on a govt project, doesn’t want to change our working time and wants us to work 12 hours a day. So to whom should we complain about that?
Name withheld
Answer: You are on a government project and the timings for the government sector are laid out by the Civil Service Commission (CSC). In no case has the CSC imposed more than a 6-hour shift on anyone.
You also come under the Kuwait Labor Law which has imposed a 6-hour working time for Ramadan. So you can complain to either the CSC or the Labor Ministry.
Residence
Our company is getting temporary residence for its employees under Article 14A because of some quota problems. They have already got 3 months temporary residence for me and that has also expired. Currently I am not having any residence. What is the procedure to get residence for my son as it is going to expire soon. Is there any action we can take to get our residence renewed under Article 18?
Name withheld
Answer: No, there is nothing you can do until your company sorts out its problems.
Secondly, you can’t get residence for your son until your residence is valid. So it would be good to get an Article 14 temporary residence for him also until your company’s problems are sorted out and you get a valid residence.
