Top official at Ahmadi Labour Dept in visa trafficking probe Senior MEW official makes KD30mln in kickbacks

KUWAIT CITY, July 31: Head of Division at the Ahmadi Labor Department has been referred to the Legal Affairs Department for forging 170 work permits, reports Al-Moustaqbal daily. The daily quoting Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs in Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor explained the suspect endorsed a fake traffic document submitted by a relative who owns 17 cars and he had issued work permits based on the number of drivers supposed to have been driving those cars.

KD 30 mln in kickbacks: An unidentified senior official of the Ministry of Electricity and Water is allegedly involved in financial irregularities, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting knowledgeable sources. According to the same sources the man is said to have made not only KD 30 million commission on electrical equipment but was also given a Porsche car. The suspect is also said to have dropped KD 14 million in fines against a company for delaying the work on the project.

Trio in drug business: Secu-ritymen arrested three expatriates for trading in drugs with two cigarettes containing hashish and 11,000 narcotic pills in their possession. In a press statement Sunday, the Ministry of Interior revealed Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Major General Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah received information from a reliable source that three expatriates are trafficking in drugs. He formed a team of anti-narcotics officers, who obtained a search and arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution after putting one of the suspects under surveillance. The team then raided an apartment in Salmiya where they found two of the suspects with 1,000 narcotic pills and two cigarettes containing hashish in their possession. During interrogation, the suspects admitted the crime and guided police to their accomplice, who was arrested later with 10,000 narcotic pills in his possession. The three suspects were referred to the relevant security department for the necessary legal action.

Drugs found in jail: Security op-eratives at the Central Prisons recovered 7 narcotic pills, two fingers of hashish and mobile phones during a surprise campaign inside the cells of the prisons, says Al-Seyassah. The inspection follows a tip-off security officers received which said the inmates were abusing drugs inside the jail. A team of securitymen was formed to raid the cells and they managed to confiscate the contraband. Sources said the suspects, with the items, were referred to the relevant authority to determine those who assisted the inmates to smuggle them into the cells.

Fleeing with illegitimate baby: Police have arrested an Asian woman for giving birth to illegitimate baby, reports Al-Rai daily. According to reports the woman gave birth to the baby and when the hospital administration asked the woman for the marriage contract prior to leaving the hospital, she reportedly said her husband was busy and unable to come. However, she promised to produce the contract the next day. It has been reported the hospital staff suspected her behavior and kept her under close watch. She was caught red-handed while attempting to walk out of the hospital with the baby at a late evening hour. She has been referred to the Criminal Investigations Department.

Indian, B’deshi held: In two separate incidents police have arrested two Asians — an Indian and a Bangladeshi — who were wanted by law for issuing dud cheques, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. According to reports the Indian was arrested in Al-Rai for issuing a dud cheque for KD 6,000 and the Bangladeshi in Farwaniya. He had issued a dud cheque for KD 2,000.

Kuwaiti tourists cheated: Twenty Kuwaitis have filed complaints with the Salhiya and Mishref police stations accusing a company of cheating them, reports Al-Anba daily. According to reports the company promised the victims special services and group tours of Egypt and special accommodation in ‘grade one’ resorts in Sharm el-Sheikh and Ghardaqa. After the victims signed contracts and paid part payment they discovered they had been cheated.

Furniture stolen: Police are looking for an unidentified burglar who broke into the diwaniya of a Kuwaiti family in Taima and stole furniture, reports Al-Rai daily. According to reports the suspect committed the theft past midnight when the family was fast asleep. Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department have lifted fingerprints to identify the culprit.

Nine hurt in accidents: Nine people were injured in traffic accidents occurring at various locations of the country in the last 48 hours. An Indian in his 50s suffered serious injuries and additional fractures after a motorist knocked him down in Maidan Hawalli. Two vehicles collided on Nuwaiseeb Motorway and resulted in serious injuries to a 44-year old Indian expatriate. A team of securitymen and paramedics were on hand to refer the injured person to the Adan Hospital for treatment. A Kuwaiti citizen and an Indian expatriate were injured in a two-car collision accident along the third Ring Road Opposite Rawda.

An Afghani in his early 40s was hit and severely injured by a motorist in Jleeb Shuyoukh area. Based on report the Operations Room received in that regard, securitymen and paramedics rushed to the scene, and the injured man was referred to Farwaniya Hospital for medical attention. Two vehicles crashed on Kabad Motorway and caused injuries to two Kuwaitis. Paramedics referred the victims to the Farwaniya Hospital. An Egyptian man in his early 30s sustained injuries in different places of the body when two cars smashed into each other along the Seventh Ring Road, opposite Abdullah Mubarak.
