Xpress Rollers, Air Safari share 11th week limelight 2011 PBAK Summer League elimination round KUWAIT CITY, July 21: After a one week break, the lane hostilities at the on-going 2011 PBAK-BEC Money Gram-SMDC Summer Tenpin Bowling League will resume this Friday with the Top 8 teams all aiming to solidify their respective positions worth an outright finals berth. Going back to the results of the concluded matches prior to the much needed break, the Xpress Rollers lane masters and the high flying Air Safari keglers shared the 11th week limelight as both teams submitted above 3100 pin falls scores. Also shining in the relatively high scoring week were Western Union-Al Muzaini Exchange, BOSE, K2E2, World Class and Mega World.
In a performance that handed them the weekly team high series award, Xpress Rollers more than made up for their week 10 dismal showing after brushing aside the equally tenacious Team Asoka in a high scoring match. In dominating their rivals, the Rollers were simply in a class of its own in their 1035-944, 1032-947 and 1067-1008 victories of the dazzled Team Asoka. Led by Caloy Garay who carded a 3-game series score of 637 pin falls Xpress Rollers posted a 3159-2899 total pin falls win. Taking care of the rest of the scoring chores for the Rollers were Team prexy Joe Simmons, Liza Catapia, Tony Zuleta, Hermie Saliba and Rick Bellen. For Team Asoka, the scoring load was carried by Lloyd Fernandes, Uly Menezes, Colin Costa, Rudolph Castellino and Samantha Fernandes.
The Air Safari roving keglers on the other hand booked the only above 3100 score of the week in their scintillating 3118-2721 rout of the East-West pin busters. In the match opener where both teams had a rather slow start, East-West with Mike Garcia, Elvie Sotio, Nelson de Leon, Ric Marimla and Ding Abaygar managed to eke out a 917-895 squeaker to gain a narrow lead going to the next game. Led by Toto Abear who submitted a 221, Air Safari cornered their beleaguered rivals in game two via a 1077-893 shellacking. Now in full throttle, Air Safari stalwart Al Bautista took over the lead role in game three by rolling a superb 257 on their way to rousing 1121-921 victory. To ensure the victory, Air Safari also relied on the heads up pin breaking of Shay Lao, Lito Michaels, Edwin de Mesa and Kiko Andaya. Meanwhile, the Western Union-Al Muzaini Exchange moved up a notch in the standings after easing past D’ Islanders through a strong finishing kick. The remittance magnates broke loose midway the closely contested game one and snatched a 1028-941 decision. Bannered by Fe Ferrer, Bert Pantanilla, Marilyne Mariano, Danny Doctor and Rolly David, D’ Islanders grabbed a 1003-965 win on the next game to cut down the deficit to 6 marks. Brandishing a new lineup, Western Union-Al Muzaini quickly built a commanding lead and easily breezed home with a convincing 1034-888 win in the final game of the match. Bowling for the victorious Western Union-Al Muzaini Exchange squad in this match were Chit Mariano, Bobby Ferrera, Sonny Mariano, Romy Ramirez, Al Belarmino, Ed Mendoza and Tito Tamayo.
The highlights of week 11 also saw the real estate magnates of Mega World overcome two successive setbacks in subduing a bewildered Whiplash quintet. Headed by the tandem of Bong Autida and Michelle Avila, Whiplash out bowled Mega World in game one 1016-950 and then made it two in a row as Rico Baluyot, Joel Tamayo and Rey Galvez pitched in to give Whiplash another 995-943 win. Down by 12 marks, the property magnates of Mega World spearheaded by Norie Sairat, Rene Marzan, Mandy Manalo, Jess de Vera and George Bouchebel, slowly but surely ate away the lead of Whiplash in game three and succeeded in turning the tide of the match in their favor 2962-2862 with a lopsided 1044-851 victory. The sound specialists of BOSE also found themselves in the winner’s circle as they snapped a spell of so-so outings with an impressive 3006-2753 win over the Swooping Eagles. To sweep the 3-game series via 975-923, 1036-908 and 970-922 scores, BOSE banked on the pin point accuracy of Eddie Pena, Jun Baker, Joel Tizon, Pilar Villanueva, Rod Dulay and Sam Behbehani.
In the other matches of the week, the pace setting World Class bowlers had no trouble keeping the top spot as they demolished an off form Cozmo 1 crew in all three games of the match to clinch 2992-2576 total pin falls win, the second running K2E2 Thunders enjoyed a walk in the park 2996-2782 win over BEC-Nusantara, defending champion Cozmo 2 nipped Siete Pares 2929-2813 and Klasmeyts-Al Khada-Kana Controls kept their place in the leader board by thumping LEAF 2835-2688.
