Battling Worley Parsons stay focused for lead Goodyear Tires on the heels of leaders

KUWAIT CITY, July 18: Worley Parsons Resource & Energy held off a strong challenge from Goodyear Tires to take the lead in the 21st FBAA Filipino Badminton Association of Ahmadi (FBAA) 6th Goodyear Tires Cup at the Fahaheel Sports Club, Friday.
With the number of matches won the main factor in calculating the position of the teams, and the number of points coming into play only if the teams are tied, Worley Parsons were in the top spot with 56 victories and 166 points while Goodyear Tires—with 55 wins but 168 points – were in second place.
The competition at the top is really close as Bhasin Co. were in the third spot with 54 wins and 159 points followed by AMEC with 53 wins and 150 points.
The other teams are quite a distance away as Western Union Money Transfer are lying 5th with 39 wins and 113 points, Wataniya Telecom 6th with 38 wins and 114 points while Almailem Tires are propping up the table with 37 wins and 123 points.

The event is being held over the following six categories: Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s Higher C, Men’s Lower C, Ladies A/B and Mixed C. Each team consists of 4 players and 10 matches will be played by each squad. The scoring system is based on the accumulated number of matches and total set points with the top four teams in each category advancing to the semifinals.
A team can have more points than the squad above it although it might have triumphed in fewer matches as three points are awarded to the pairs which win their matches in two sets with the losers getting nothing while for the games which go to three sets, the winners get two points and the losers get one.
This tournament will run until 12 August, 2001 with FBAA President Ronald Margate and his dedicated team of office-bearers again calling the shots to ensure that this event also runs as smoothly as all the previous ones.
