Municipality seizes 120 tons of expired foodstuffs from 6 stores KUWAIT CITY, July 18: Police officers from the Farwaniya Security Directorate on Monday arrested an Asian for trading in local alcohol with 14 bottles in his possession. Acting on a tip-off, the officers observed the Asian as he stood in front of a coffee shop in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, waiting for a prospective buyer. The officers approached him and checked the contents of the bag he was carrying, proving their suspicions that the contents were bottles of local alcohol. He was referred to the relevant security department for prosecution.
Drug addict held: A team of officers from the Capital Security Directorate arrested a young man for consuming drugs with an undisclosed quantity of heroin in his possession. While patrolling in Sulaibikhat late night Sunday, the officers noticed the strange behavior of the young man loitering around the area. They approached him for routine inspection and they realized he was under the influence of drugs. When the officers searched the youth, they found some heroin in his possession. He was referred to the concerned security department for the necessary legal action.
Call traders held: Ahmadi securitymen arrested three Asians for operating illegal international call center in Egaila. Acting on information about the illegal trade of the trio, the security officers put the suspects under surveillance. After ascertaining that they were offering international call service illegally, the officers raided the apartment being used as a call center, leading to the arrest of the three Asians. The officers also confiscated a number of communications gadgets during the raid.
Suicide attempted: A Filipino maid in her mid-30s tried to commit suicide by cutting the arteries in her hand after quarreling with her sponsor in Andalous area. A rescue team rushed to the location after the Operations Room had been notified in that regard, and the woman was taken to Farwaniya Hospital for medical care. A case has since been registered against her.
Foodstuffs seized: The Kuwait Municipality inspectors over the past 48 hours are said to have confiscated more than 120 tons of foodstuffs believed to be unfit for human consumption, reports Al-Qabas daily. According to a reliable source from the Kuwait Municipality the inspectors seized the foodstuffs during a raid on six stores — four in Shuwaikh and one each in Al-Rai and Sharq. The same source said some foodstuffs expired in 2006 while others in 2008 and 2009. Others foodstuffs seized include local products such as chicken, meat, fish and pastries in addition to seven tons of spoiled nuts. But the Al-Shahed daily said 500 tons of spoiled foodstuffs have been confiscated. The daily also said the foodstuffs were imported by a Syrian businessman to be sold in the local market during the holy month of Ramadan.
Police hunt thieves: Police are looking for a four-man gang of Asians for robbing compatriots, reports Al-Qabas daily. According to a complaint filed by a Pakistani man, the suspects kidnapped him and drove him to an unidentified location and stole from him KD 400. Earlier an Indian man had filed a similar complaint with the police accusing the four men of robbing him of KD 1,400.
